There are some creatures that a lot of people think are a little bit scary.

Like this guy.

A Chilean rose hair tarantula.

And he’s actually really nice.

They mainly eat insects, but large tarantulas will eat things as big as birds, mice and small lizards.

MARTIN: Humans get really scared of tarantulas, but most are completely harmless to people.

Even though they’re venomous, no human has ever been known to die of a tarantula bite.

Their venom stuns and immobilizes their prey.

That’s how the spider catches his food.

Hey Chris, do you hear that?

Over there!

Our backpack!

Well whatever is was, it’s gone now.

(Squealing) MARTIN: It definitely wasn’t this guy.

A Great Horned Owl.

Some people think owls are spooky, but not me.

Owls are just designed for catching their favorite prey, mice, under the cover of darkness.

Take a close look at these feathers.

They have fluffy edges that muffle the sound the wing makes.

That way, the prey won’t even hear the owl coming.

MARTIN: And the eyes, perfect for seeing at night.

They don’t miss a thing.

(Rattling) What was that?

Ah man, it took off.

I can’t see anything.

I wish we could see like that guy.

Yeah, imagine if we could get into the lives of some of these so-called spooky animals.

Yeah, but you’ll be way too big to fit in the Tortuga, the party isn’t under water and I don’t think there’ll be squid snacks.

Hmm, all good points.

Maybe I should stick with the land creatures.

And nocturnal ones.

The party is at night, so our costumes should be animals that come out at night.

(Martin and Chris howling) (Creature howling) Keep going bro, I’m gonna see if I can spot them.

We were just out trying to decide which nocturnal creatures we want to be!

(Howling) Bet you can’t guess.

They’re just to the west of us!

JIMMY Z: Wolves!?

Yikes!

You guys are actually looking for wolves?

Yeah, one of the most misunderstood animals in the forest.

Some people think they’re really dangerous, but they’re actually pretty wary of people.

Wow, but that howling is pretty spooky.

Wolves howl to talk to each other.

They’re saying, "Here I am.

This area is my home, my territory."

(Howling) Let’s follow that... Whoa!

Gah!

(Continues talking, muffled) Whoa, cool!

An abandoned raccoon den!

This must have been a great den.

It’s big, hidden and- MARTIN: Chris!

Chris?

Hey bro.

Ya, I’m fine.

Just checking out this old raccoon den I found.

Uh, looks like you won’t need a costume for the party tonight.

You could go as a raccoon now.

Hmm, not bad.

Raccoons are nocturnal creatures.

Good point, dude, but let’s go find that wolf pack!

Time for a little Kickin’ Kangaroo gaming.

(Whimpering) Koki?

Aviva?

♪ MARTIN: Wolf tracks!

They must be close.

Martin, over here.

Oh yeah, it’s the wolf pack.

(Snarling) And check those two out.

They must be the alpha pair.

Basically, the top-ranking boy and girl, or mom and dad, of the pack.

MARTIN: You’re right.

You can tell because they stand taller than the rest, with their ears and tails high.

The other wolves in the pack are usually sisters, brothers, sons or daughters.

(Howling) Looks like they’re starting a pre-hunting rally.

(Howling) CHRIS: Wolves use great teamwork to raise their pups.

Every wolf will help the mom out, and that includes hunting animals like deer, moose, rabbits, and raccoons.

(Howling) MARTIN: Uh, did you say raccoons?

Uh-oh.

I must still smell like a raccoon.

Oh, I think we’d better get going.

Mmm.

Hey, that’s not what the miniaturizer is for, you know.

Yeah, but it’s cool.

Finally, someone noticed my new strut.

Something weird is going on here.

MARTIN: Okay, it seems like they’re following us.

Yeah, wolves don’t hunt people, but a giant raccoon-smelling human is something any wolf might be curious about.

Good point.

It is pretty cool, though, being tracked by the pack.

Yeah, definitely shows how quiet wolves can be and how scary it would be if we really were raccoons.

Hey, let’s see if Aviva can whip up a wolf disc for our creature power suits in time for the party.

AVIVA: Jimmy?!

Are you downstairs?

Yeah, I’m in the garage, you need something?

AVIVA: Can you grab the screwdriver from the cabinet down there?

(Chattering, rustling) Hello?

KOKI: Hmm, now that Jimmy mentions it, I noticed a few weird things, too.

Sounds like a creature mystery to me!

MARTIN: Oh, maybe whatever it is wants to come to the party, too!

There’s nothing there, Jimmy, what are you talk-- Wait a sec!

Something was here.

And whatever it was likes to eat berries and turkey sandwiches.

There’s a monster living here!

I’m not sure a few crumbs equal a monster.

Sounds like an omnivore to me, eating both plants and animals.

CHRIS: So we know this much about our mystery creature.

Clue number 1: Eight eyes.

Clue number 2: Omnivore.

(Loud crashing) Upstairs!

Hey!

It got my pumpkin pie!

Aww, man.

And the other half of my turkey sandwich, too!

Whoa!

Check this out!

Whoa, that is one giant paw print!

There are five long fingers on each print.

These are more like hands then paws, perfect for grabbing things.

And they lead outside.

There it goes!

Wow, something strange is going on here.

That creature looked like a Bigfoot or something!

Yeah, the size of a bear, but not the feet of a bear.

(Rattling, crashing) Wait, do you hear that?

That’s still inside the Tortuga.

That means... Two mystery creatures!

Even better!

I’ll go track down the Bigfoot creature.

I got the eight-eyed creature.

How about I come with you, Martin?

And I’ll stay and help you, Chris.

Great plan, guys.

Let the creature mystery solving begin!

And I’m fine with staying right here, alone.

With no monsters at all.

And I’m not taking any chances with my controller.

♪ MARTIN: Okay, Aviva.

Think like the creature.

It looks like it went in this direction.

Oh, oh, cool!

Crayfish exoskeletons!

Aviva, I found something.

Ugh, no thanks.

I already ate.

Okay, so the Bigfoot creature is big, has grabby hands, and likes crayfish.

That could mean it’s a mink, otter, but it can’t be any of those.

This animal is much bigger than that.

Hmm, could our Bigfoot be up there?

I think so.

And he’s eating acorns.

He likes crayfish too, so he’s an omnivore.

Huh, what was that?

BOTH: Oh!

Huh?

Oh!

Ahh...!

Oof!

Ahh...!

Guy, guys, I was just speaking to Aviva.

So far, the Bigfoot creature is big, has grabby hands, and is an omnivore, too.

CHRIS: Okay, so both the Bigfoot and the eight-eyed creature like to eat plants and animals.

You know, I was thinking more about animals with eight eyes and the only ones I can think of are spiders.

Four large eyes are to hunt food.

The four smaller eyes are for defense, so the spider can see any predators trying to catch him.

Could the eight-eyed creature be a spider?

CHRIS: No, because no spiders have paws.

They actually have toe-like claws at the tips of their legs.

So now what?

Hmm, we need more clues.

♪ COMPUTER VOICE: Welcome, Jimmy Z. Oh!

Hello.

JIMMY Z: No...!

My X2000 controller!

What’s going on, J-Z?

My safe!

The eight-eyed monster was able to open it and steal my controller.

Wow!

This creature hunt keeps getting better.

Clue number 3 and number 4: This creature is super smart KOKI: Smart, got it.

Don’t forget thief.

(Creature chattering) Oh!

What’s that?

Did you hear that?

I’m out of here!

So both creature monsters have grabby hands and both are omnivores.

Hmm.

(Loud banging) It’s coming from the basement.

♪ C’mon, now’s our chance.

Well, we know this Bigfoot creature can climb.

What can’t it do?

There it is.

AVIVA: Oh, he’s fast!

I just made out a giant shadowy furball.

I thought I saw his tail.

It looked like it was striped.

Come on!

AVIVA: I should call Chris and Koki.

Tell them it’s a climber and seems to have a striped tail.

I think it’s coming from inside the Createrra.

BOTH: Oh!

Clue number 5?

The eight-eyed creature can drive?!

Huh?

(Laughing) AVIVA: Guys!

BOTH: Whoa!

AVIVA: We’ve found the big footed creature.

It climbs, has a striped tail, and we’re sneaking up on it right now.

We got something here, too.

The eight-eyed creature’s inside the Createrra.

Our creature’s a, a... It’s a, a... CHRIS AND KOKI: Raccoons!

MARTIN AND AVIVA: A giant raccoon!

Ha!

Actually, three baby raccoons.

Each with two eyes.

And there’s Jimmy’s controller.

But it’s an eight-eyed creature.

Where are the other two eyes?

I bet the giant raccoon is their mother.

MARTIN: She must be, but she’s huge!

How’d she get so big?

The raccoon must have fiddled with the miniaturizer controls CHRIS: That’s possible.

With their finger-like hands, raccoons are masters at holding and grabbing.

They can even open all sorts of latches and locks.

We got to check out our clue list.

Wow, the eight eyes and the giant feet really threw us.

If it weren’t for those things, we probably would have guessed it.

Yeah, so let’s see.

Omnivore.

Raccoons definitely eat both animals, like crayfish, and plants, like berries.

KOKI: Great climbers.

That explains all the scratching noise we heard.

Don’t forget about the grabby hands.

Raccoons can catch food by feeling for it.

AVIVA: Smarts.

That, along with the grabby hands, and these guys can figure out how to get into anything.

KOKI: And that classic striped tail.

By the way, love the mask, too.

What’s that for?

CHRIS: It helps them with their night vision and prevents glare.

AVIVA: Well, you really had us stumped, momma raccoon.

Hey, speaking of momma raccoon, how are we gonna get her back to the Tortuga so we can make her normal size and reunite her with her kits?

MARTIN: Well, one thing we know about raccoons is, they’re excellent mothers.

Oh yeah, so we know she’ll definitely come back for them.

But when?

And we need a way to get her into the miniaturizer.

Well, she may just need a little bait.

Wait a sec.

Why don’t I like the sound of that?

CHRIS: Do you see her anywhere?

MARTIN: No.

But there’re some grapes in front of my eyes.

You really think this is going to work?

CHRIS: Well, we know raccoons are omnivores who eat lots of different foods.

So this should lure her back.

We couldn’t have just done the old acorn on a string, trick?

Wait, there she is.

Any giant raccoons hungry?

Whoa, incoming giant raccoon!

Once Martin lures the mother here, we can use this remote miniaturizer to shrink her back down to size.

Then what?

’Cause I hope they’re not moving back into the Tortuga.

No, we’ll need to find them a new home, and I know the perfect place.

I fell into an old abandoned raccoon den when we were searching for-- (Howling) The wolf pack!

Uh oh.

Which means, we’ll have to sneak those little baby raccoons to their new homes in top secret.

Sounds like you’ll need some creature help.

AVIVA: Hey guys!

How about raccoon power?

CHRIS: Great idea.

Now we know that raccoons are like the ninjas of the forest: Stealthy, sneaky... Ahh!

And smart.

That’s the power of the raccoon.

MARTIN: Jimmy, are you ready with the miniaturizer?

As ready as I’ll ever be.

Considering you’re luring a giant raccoon right towards me.

Here we come!

We’re gonna have to be stealthy if we want to get past the wolf pack.

I’m not yelling, you’re just hearing me through raccoon ears.

They have super hearing.

MARTIN: Huh?

I guess that would explain it.

Wait.

I think I can hear the wolves.

They must be close.

The wolf den!

It’s just up ahead.

We’re gonna have to be extra sneaky now.

You don’t have to tell me, tell them... Hey where did they go?

Martin, I think we have to follow their lead.

Yeah, the masters of the forest: Secretive, smart, with loads of abilities.

Raccoon ninjas!

(Twig cracking) Uh oh!

Time to use these raccoon powers.

MARTIN: You guys go ahead.

We’ll distract them, raccoon style.

We’re excellent climbers!

And excellent swimmers!

CHRIS: Hey wolves!

Psst!

We can get into tight places and are great at hiding.

And our amazing grabby hands can open all sorts of locks.

(Screaming) Oh yeah.

CHRIS: Made it.

Raccoons.

You’re amazing all-around creatures.

MARTIN: Welcome home!

KOKI: Great job, Kratts.

They were able to safely make it back to their new den thanks to your quick thinking!

And a little raccoon power!

Creature mission accomplished!

AVIVA: There, everything is ready.

Sure is.

JIMMY Z: Let the party begin.

Jimmy, what are you supposed to be?

Wow, that’s a stretch.

(Laughing) Excellent costumes, guys.

JIMMY Z: What!?

The sneaky, clever raccoon is a perfect costume.

Where’s the new very berry cake?

What is this?

What?

Looks like the masked bandit strikes again.

(Laughing) So, nighttime creatures, so-called spooky creatures, really aren’t that spooky once you get to know them.

Oh yeah, they’re really interesting and, well, spooky is just kind of fun.

(Clattering, banging) What is that!?

Whoever it is, it got into our food.

We got to get to the bottom of this.

♪ Who do you think it is?

♪ Oh!

Raccoons!

They are pretty sneaky creatures.

MARTIN: At least our omnivores got an omnivore-styled meal: Meat, from our baloney sandwiches, and plants: Apples and carrots.

CHRIS: Hey, he’s running off with my peanut butter and banana sandwich.

That’s a mom and her babies.

I know it’s hard to believe, because those baby raccoons are huge.

In about a month, they’re gonna leave their mom and go off on their own.

CHRIS: Oh, she’s climbing right up that stump.

And she makes it to the top.

Her claws really dig into the tree bark.

And raccoons have hips that can rotate 180 degrees, so whether they’re climbing up the tree or down head first, their feet can always grab on.

Peanuts and seeds.

Raccoons love everything.

Check out that mask.

The mask is the classic mark of the raccoon.

Now, nobody really knows why they have these masks.

Could it be to identify each other as raccoons?

It could something to do with being nocturnal, helping them to see at night.

But whatever the reason for that mask, a raccoon’s mask sure looks cool.

All this eating’s making me hungry.

Problem is, they ate all our food.

Those masked bandits!

They sure are stealthy, sneaky and smart.

And, don’t forget mischievous.

And judging by all the food they ate, very, very full!

Hey, they left us a couple of grapes.

One for you, one for me.

Is this all that’s left?

CHRIS: I’m still hungry.
