hello my name is Angela Williamson your host for this special screening of the Live Action graphic novel Macbeth on KLCS by artistic director Ben Denenberg Ben is with us tonight thank you so much for being here and for what you've done to recreate Macbeth how does that >> happen Well thanks and I'm so glad to be have an opportunity to talk about it thank you well you know as the pandemic descended on us I got very concerned and worried about how we were going to continue telling these stories that are so important and particularly how are we going to tell the stories to my kids my fifteen year old son in high school how is this how how are we going to keep these stories relevant and important and meaningful and so I thought back to the Times that I would read stories to my kids before they went to bed and show them the pictures and then one day I'm on a zoom meeting and I'm looking at all the squares on the screen and thinking you know this looks a lot >> like a graphic novel and so I'm going to I'm going to read this storytelling techniques so that I can match Zoom to Shakespeare and how am I going to do that how are we going to tell the stories I'm going to pull in some of the best actors I can pull in with Keith David was so gracious three Emmy Awards he he he he jumped in because he had played the role before and wonderful actors joined our team and then I thought well I don't just want to do a graphic novel and show the beautiful illustrations that we're commissioning I want to see the actors acting it at the same time and so we put the actors on the bottom of the screen in their squares with a beautiful red curtain behind them and you can see them feeling and emoting and bringing the story to life at the same time we commissioned Young graphic illustrators that see the world through the same eyes that my kid sees the world through and we came up with this graphic novel we storyboarded the show we have over two hundred illustrations and color of this beautiful kind of rendering of a post apocalyptic kind of world after imagining what we would be like if the pandemic really ravaged the world so I tried to make it about what was happening you know Shakespeare says you have to hold the mirror up to nature meaning you have to show the world itself right now and so I tried to use the zoom media for what it was I didn't try and make it a television show I didn't try to take in movies or anything like that let's use Zoom to tell Shakespeare's story thanks so much Now watch this new take on Macbeth on KLCS Macbeth was made possible by the following when shall we three meet again in Thunder Lightning or in rain when the hurly burly is done when the battle is lost and one that will be air the set of sun where the place upon this it was that there is foul and foul this fall however >> through the fog and the air doubtful it stood as to spend swimmers that do cling together and choke their art the rebellious McDonald with multiplying villainies of nature comes Ahmed from Cawdor Boros to weak for brave McBeath Well he deserves that name distained fortune with his brandished steel which smoked with bloody execution like Fowlers Minion carved out his passage till he faced MacDonald and he unseated him from the knave of the chops and fixed his head up on his battlements no more that of course don't deceive King Duncan don't pronounce his present death and with his formal title Greek Macbeth >> has now been sister killing >> Suay Kistner Where Thou Thalers wife had Chestnut's in our lap and munged Munchen once give me pause I I write to me the rough and rugged cries her husband's to Aleppo gone master of the tiger and inessive out feathers sail like a rat without a tail I'll do I'll do and I'll do I'll give you wind kind or another I myself of all the other liquid I have >> here >> I have got some wrecked as homeworking did come Macbeth doth come the weird sisters hand in hand posters of the sea and land to go about about the nine Jimani thrice again to make up nine PPIF turns one last fall foul is fair and Banquo his fellow warrior and friend strangely find themselves transported to the heath so >> Foulon fair a day I have not seen how far is it to forest what he's so with it and so wild in their attire it look not like the inhabitants of the earth and yet or on it leave you or are you or that man may question speak if you can what are you all hail Macbeth hail to the faint of gloms hail Macbeth Hail to the Saint >> of Khutor oh >> Macbeth that shall be king hereafter good sir why do you start and seem to fear things that do sound so fair in the name of truth are you fantastical oh that indeed which outwardly you show my noble partner you greet with pleasant grace and great prediction that he seems with all to me you speak not if you can look into the seeds of time and see which grain will grow and which will not speak into me when I beg nor fear your favors nor your eight hail lesser than Macbeth and great not so happy yet much happier fellow get kings of those shall be none so all hail Macbeth and Banquo Banquo and Macbeth all stay with perfect speakers tell me more by CentOS Death I know I am thinking of gloms but how of Cawdor the theme of Khoder lives a prosperous gentleman and to be king stands within the prospect of belief no more than to be Cawdor say from whence you all this strange intelligence or why upon this blasted heat you stop my way with such prophetic reasoning speak I charge you the the earth bubbles as the water has and these are of little rather vanished into the air and what seemed corporal melted his breath into the wind do you not hope your children will be kings you shall be king and Thane of Cawdor to when did not so that might in kindle you onto the crown besides the course but to strange and oftentimes to witness to our harm the instruments of chaos tell truths we must with honest trifles to betray us in deepest consequence this supernatural soliciting cannot be begin cannot be good if ill why has it given me earnest of success if good why do I yield that suggestion whose horrid image doth unpicks my hair and make my seated knock at my ribs against the use of nature present fears are less than horrible imaginings my thought whose murder is yet but fantastical shaikh's so my single state of man that function is smothered in surmise nothing is but what is not >> if chance would have me king by chance May crowned me without my stir come what may time and the hour runs through the roughest day >> as Macbeth and Banquo continue home they reunite with King Duncan who fulfills the witches prophecy by proclaiming Macbeth Thane of Cawdor meanwhile let Macbeth's castle Lady Macbeth reads a letter from her husband They >> met me in the day success and I have learned by the perfect to report they have more in them than mortal knowledge when I burned in desire to question them further they made themselves er into which they vanished whilst I stood wrapped in the wonder of it came missives from the King who all hailed me Thane of Cawdor by which title before these wayward sisters saluted me and referred me to the coming on of time with Hail King that shalt be this how I thought good to deliver the my dearest partner of greatness that thou might not lose the deuce of rejoicing by being ignorant of what greatness is promised the lay it to their heart and farewell glance thou art and Cawdor and shall be what thou art promised yet >> do I fear that nature it is too full of the milk of human kindness to catch the nearest way that would be great art not without ambition but without the illness should tend it what thou wouldst highly that would sell wholly what's not platefuls high the hither that I'm a poor my spirits in dying ere can't use spirits that tend on mortal thoughts on sex me here and >> fill me from a crumb to the tall top fall of dearest cruelty make thick my blood stop up the access and passage of remorse that no compunctions visit things of nature shake my felt purpose nor keep peace between the effect and come >> to my woman's and take my milk for you mothering ministers wherever in your sightless substances you wait on nature's mischief come thick night and the in the dust smoke of that my kitchen knife scene of the wounded makes nor heaven peep through the blanket of the dark all the great gloms or the greater than both by the all hail hereafter the eye letters have transported me beyond the signal at present I feel now the future in the instant my dearest love >> Duncan comes here tonight and >> when goes hence tomorrow as >> he proposes oh never shall sun that morrow see your face my saying is as a book where men may read strange matters to beguile the time look like the time they are welcome in your eye or and your tongue look like the innocent flower but the serpent under it he that's coming must be provided for and you shall put this night's great business into my despatch which shall to all our nights and days to come give solely sovereigns sway and master we will speak further only look at clear to alter favor ever is to fear leave all the rest to me King >> Duncan and Macduff arrive at Macbeth's castle they are greeted by Lady Macbeth while Macbeth looks on from above this castle has a pleasant seat the nimbly and sweetly recommended self on to our gentle senses see see our honored hostess the love that follows us some time is our trouble which still we think as love all service in every point twice done and then done double or poor and single business to contend against those honors deep and broad where with Your Majesty loathes our house >> where is the pain of Kotal give me your hand conduct me to Macbeth we love him highly and shall continue gracious towards it she leads the king and his men to rest up for the feast Macbeth >> is alone if it were done when it is done to her well it was done quickly if the >> assassination could tramel up the consequence catch with his surcease success that but this blow might be the be all and end all here >> but >> here upon this bank and shole of time we jump the life to come >> but in these cases we have judgment here that >> we will teach bloody instructions which being taught returned to plague the inventor this even handed justice offers the ingredients of our poisoned chalice to our own lips he's here in Devil Trust first as I am his kinsman and subject strong both against the deed then as his host who stood against his murderer shut the door not bear the knife myself >> besides this Duncan hath borne his faculties so meek have been so clear in his great office >> that his virtues will plead like Angel's trumpet tumbled against the deep damnation of his taking >> of I have no spur to pricked the sides of my intent but only vaulting ambition which all leaps itself and falls on the homeo what news has almost have he asked for me no you not he has we will proceed no further in this business we have honored me of late and I have brought golden opinions from all sorts of people which will be worn now in their newest gloss not cast aside so was the hope drunk wherein you dressed yourself and had slept since and wakes it now to look so green and pale at what did so freely from this time such I count that I love art that were feared to be the same in the
