A look at the Battle of New Market in 1864, which took place on the Field of Lost Shoes

Local professional (Shenandoah Shakespeare) and amateur actors present the story of the Bushong family upon whose farm the Battle of New Market was fought. The name "Field of Lost Shoes" was coined because the battle took place after a rain storm and many soldiers left their shoes behind in the mud as they surged forward to fight. The special follows one VMI cadet in particular - Bev Stanard
