- [Narrator] Meet Emily Cassidy.
Emily is a senior at Citronelle High School and has maintained straight A's since kindergarten.
She has a GPA of 4.66 and is a member of the National Honor Society.
Emily is student council president and has been a member and leader of several clubs and organizations and is extremely active in community service.
Despite her own lifelong health struggles, Emily is committed to caring for her brother Will who has special needs forever.
- My biggest inspiration would have to be my little brother.
My little brother has Down syndrome and he's never let that stop him.
- I would say that in addition to being an academic, Emily is compassionate.
- When Emily told me she had been selected as one of the recipients, I was so very excited for her and I was not at all shocked because I know that she is so worthy of this award.
She does so much, not only academically for herself, but also helping care for her brother, who is a delight.
So I was so, so excited for her, so proud of her, and she deserves it.
- For the young people of Alabama, I would just like to tell them that nothing is impossible.
You can work towards your dreams and your aspirations even if you might be told that you can't, even if you might be told that you're too young.
You can never be too young to do something.
You can go towards it with all your ability, and if you try and if you think you can, you can do it.
You can do anything you could put your mind to.
- [Narrator] For her dedication to her studies, her community, and her family, APT proudly recognizes Emily as one of the five young heroes of Alabama for 2023.
