- [Narrator] Conner Holland is a senior at Gadsden City High School.
He carried a 3.7 GPA while pursuing an advanced diploma.
In 2009, when he was just five years old, Conner was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia.
He has endured chemotherapy, total body radiation, and a bone marrow transplant.
In May 2020, doctors discovered several tumors in his right leg.
- Something that I've learned through my journey, especially going through cancer twice, is you never know what the next day is gonna bring.
August or September last year, when I found out I had a cancerous nerve sheath tumor in my right leg, I just thought it was a normal day.
Felt okay, and then I came home and we sat outside and they broke the news to me.
- Conner is regarded very highly in Gadsden City High School.
It's amazing that a young man can go through and endure what he's had to endure and still maintain the perspective that he's been able to maintain.
Never has a bad day, regardless of what happens, he's always lifting other people up.
And I think he just embodies a spirit that I don't know that I've ever seen in a young man before.
- In my school year, I've had a lot of experiences and activities.
I've been in the swim team, the bowling team.
I've helped out with band.
Another thing that I got to experience was my electrical classes, and that has pushed me to pursue what I want to do in college.
And it's those classes that, it's gonna prepare you for the future.
- [Narrator] For his giving heart, his service to the community, and his extraordinary maturity, Conner is recognized by his school and our state as one of the five 2021 Young Heroes of Alabama.
