- [Presenter] Mollie Wilder is a senior at Shelby County High School, where she maintains a 3.8 GPA and is active in choir, Girls Honor Choir, the Key Club, and the Student Government Association.
Mollie was diagnosed with medulloblastoma when she was in the fifth grade at Wilsonville Elementary.
In 2020, Mollie learned of another spot on her brain for which she recently and successful underwent more surgery.
- I nominated Mollie as a Young Hero because I couldn't think of a candidate more deserving of a scholarship, and she just has such big dreams, and if I could help her in any way meet those dreams, then I would just consider it an honor.
She really is truly an amazing kid.
- To be recognized as one of the Young Heroes is really, like, I wouldn't say, like, overwhelming.
Like, it's really exciting that not a lotta people get this opportunity, and that I could share this with my family and everything.
One of the things that I love most about my community is that they're always there for you whenever you need them, and you always have a support group whenever you come home, and you're not alone, and it's just easier when you're going through a difficult journey to have those people there for you.
Through these horrible times, I've discovered that I really wanna pursue pediatric oncology nursing, which is nursing which helps cancer patients.
- [Presenter] For her compassion, courage, dedication, and perseverance, Mollie is recognized by her school and our state as one of the five 2021 Young Heroes of Alabama.
