"Sesame Street" Leads with Five Nods

"Reading Rainbow" Named Outstanding Children's Series for Second Consecutive Year

Background Artist for "Sagwa, The Chinese Siamese Cat" Wins Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation Emmy Award

New York, May 13, 2002 - PBS tied for first place overall with nine Emmy Awards, seven of which were for children's series, at Saturday's Creative Craft Daytime Emmy Awards simultaneous ceremonies at New York's Marriott Marquis Hotel and at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles. With seven of its nine wins for PBS KIDS® series, PBS was honored with more Emmys for children's programming than any other broadcast or cable network.

SESAME STREET topped the list of multiple winners garnering five Daytime Emmy Awards, more than any other program or series.

For the second year in a row, READING RAINBOW received the Emmy for Outstanding Children's Series. This is the series' seventh win in that category.

Additionally, Valery Mihalkov, background artist for the PBS KIDS series SAGWA, THE CHINESE SIAMESE CAT, won the Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation Emmy Award. The Animation Emmy is a juried award for a single episode of a series or special. The Award is based on individual achievement rather than team effort.

The 29th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards presentation will be broadcast on CBS from Madison Square Garden on Friday, May 17 (9-11 p.m., ET). The show will be produced by CBS Productions with Dick Clark of dick clark productions (sic), Inc. serving as the executive producer.
