"The growth of big news organizations means there is less competition and less diversity of news sources today compared to a few years ago."

... all with the same news
...
September 16,2003
|
i have such a hard time trying to find news that actualy deals with NEWS! its not right to intrude on peoples lifes, and that just shouldn't make news, because its not. i read only eurponean papers and still its hard to find anything decent. the news makes me angry at america on the whole. its a disgusting display of nothing of importance. and if you're not getting it from one major company its another. all with the same news and presentation of events that don't matter.

... keep monopolies out
...
September 16,2003
|
We absolutly need to keep monopolies out of the media. Stories are always delivered from a point of view, no matter how hard a reporter tries to be objective. Further, for safty it is imperative to have local immediate contact that can "get the word out".

... media is consolidated
...
September 16,2003
|
What scares me is when General Electric or General Dynamics or other military contractors own shares in some of these media conglomerates. And what about their sponsors? If much of the media is consolidated, doesn't it make it easier for big business sponsors to put the pressure on a few large media companies in order to keep much of the news within THEIR best interest?

... stations will be gobbled-up
...
September 16,2003
|
The new FCC rule will definitely limit the diversity in news coverage. Smaller stations will be gobbled-up by the conglomerates; true local news will be a thing of the past.

... corporate controlled
...
September 16,2003
|
It's pretty obvious that the corporate controlled press including the networks have shifted to the right and it's also obvious that many important stories aren't being covered because they're political no-no's.

this is a democracy we have the right to choose. when all of the media is subjective the truth gets lost and so does our choice. don't forget we vote in a democracy

... become so uncivil
...
September 16,2003
|
The level of discourse in this country has become so uncivil that I rarely watch televison any longer. I even screen my PBS viewing. Perhaps it is a good thing. I read the Financial Times for my news and listen to BBC World. I find many of the news programs presented with an air of hysteria. More for entertainment than informative.

... left wing, anti-white
...
September 16,2003

The media has been a left wing, anti-white male monolith for decades. Could have been a good show otherwise.

... not interested in truth ...
September 16,2003
|
If we are not careful, Rupert Murdock will control all of the news in this country. This would be terrible because he is not interested in truth -- just his interests.

... news has become a propaganda
...
September 16,2003
|
The news has become a propaganda machine for the ruling elite. Fox is a prime example.
