Art, Butchers & Science

Ziya Tong by Ziya Tong     Department: Culture

Related to last week's segment on Body Builders, I've been quite interested in following the "issue of tissues" as seen through the lens of contemporary BioArt. Shawn Baily and Jennifer Willet, are artists from my old home town of Montreal, who've formed a research project called Bioteknica.  They've also studied at SymbioticA, an innovative art laboratory out of Australia that offers workshops on the techniques and tools used in life sciences. There's a great video (not for the squeamish) that you can check out here, and here that challenges viewers to explore their ideas on the ethics of bioengineering through art.

Would you eat the wafer?

Hi Ziya,

So nice to see you back on TV after your all too short time on CBC's ZED. You might remember me from an email where I said you should be nominated for the "Greatest Canadian" contest CBC had. Anyhow, you left a nice comment about my cartoon website. Alot has happened with my cartoons since then, and I now have a blog I keep updated regularly. I've had quite a few published in one of the Toronto papers, and I feel the encouragement from you and others really helped me stick to it! Thanks again!

Regards,
