In a world where people read science fiction...

That's right, Science Fiction Friday is just two days away and I'm already getting all anxious about it.  You too?  I've got just the thing for that anxiety: a little preview of what SFF has on offer this week.  Paolo Bacigalupi is a sharp and distinctive new voice in science fiction who has a lot to say about our world and where it might be headed.

We will be discussing Paolo's brand new book PUMP SIX AND OTHER STORIES; a collection of some of his best short fiction along with the book's eponymous tale.

Paolo is a talented writer.  Of course you should just take my word for it, but - in this case - you needn't only do that.  Among the stories in the collection, "The People of Sand and Slag" is a Hugo and Nebula Award finalist and "The Calorie Man" won the Theodore Sturgeon Award and was also a Hugo finalist.

If you aren't already familiar with Paolo's work, take a look at "The Tamarisk Hunter" which first appeared in the High Country News.  It's a well-wrought story about a possible future for the American West and its fight for water.

Tune in Friday for a lively discussion about Paolo's career, the project of science fiction, and some of the ecological disasters that might be just around the corner.
