Images from Mercury
By now you've probably seen one or two of the remarkable images of Mercury that the MESSENGER spacecraft has been sending back to Earth. Most news outlets led with the same one or two images, however, and MESSENGER continues to send images back. A great source is NASA's website for the craft, where they've put together lots of the images received so far (including images from the craft's flyby of Earth a while back), and I recommend it. (Notice that the link I gave has a number of other resources, such as launch videos, simulations of the craft's trajectory, and more.)
MESSENGER stands for MErcury Surface, Space ENvironment, GEochemistry, and Ranging. Yeah, of course it's a bit contrived, but a good name nonetheless. Over on Asymptotia, you can join in with constructing your own breakdown of an alternative name I threw into the ring just for fun - QUICKSILVER.
