Andrew Jacobson wears several hats in his specialty of isotope geochemistry. The field incorporates the chemical, physical and biological processes of elements and their isotopes as they've existed in their various periods on earth. The best way to cultivate knowledge—talk to people who are already working in the field, advises Jacobson
Isotope geochemistry can be used to determine the age of artifacts and help scientists understand our environment. The science is, for instance, useful in understanding ground water supplies and how it is affected by environmental shifts.
