Ziya Tong

Host/Field Producer

For the WIRED Science pilot, Ziya Tong sawed a plasma TV in half for an inside look at how it works. In Canada, Tong hosted the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s Emmy-nominated interactive series “ZeD,” a pioneer of open-source television, for which she received a Gemini Viewer’s Choice Award nomination. She also served as host, director and writer on the Canadian science series “The Leading Edge.” Her stories ranged from the latest buzz in bioacoustics, to Huntington’s research at a premier genetics lab; as well as a profile of one of the world’s most advanced surgical training institutes. In New York, Tong served as a senior producer for Orientation.com, a global internet news portal for developing countries partnered with the BBC and UNDP. In 2003, she launched the Ethical Media Division for Cowie and Fox Creative, one of Vancouver’s leading interactive agencies, to promote green branding for non-profit and environmental groups. Tong holds a master’s degree in communications from McGill University, where she graduated with dean’s honors.
