PBS RECEIVES NAACP IMAGE AWARDS NOMINATIONS

PBS Programs received nominations for the 52nd Annual NAACP Image Awards. The full list of nominations were announced on Tuesday, February 2.

POV received a nomination in the Outstanding Documentary (Television) category for “And She Could Be Next (Episode 2),” a docuseries following a defiant movement of women of color as they transform politics from the ground up, which aired on PBS June 30, 2020.

AMERICAN MASTERS’ “In the Making,” a documentary shorts series which follows eight emerging cultural icons, andUnladylike2020,” a multimedia series illuminating the stories of American heroines, both received nominations in the Outstanding Short Form Series – Reality/Nonfiction category.

Hollywood’s Architect: The Paul R. Williams Story, which aired February 6, 2020 on PBS, was nominated for Outstanding Writing in a Documentary for Royal K. Rodgers and Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance for Courtney B. Vance.

INDEPENDENT LENS "Mr. Soul!" (Shoes in the Bed Productions) and "Coded Bias" (7th Empire Media) received nominations for Outstanding Documentary (Film). Both films will air on PBS on February 22, 2021 and March 22, 2021 respectively. Melissa Haizlip also received a nomination for Outstanding Breakthrough Creative (Motion Picture) and Outstanding Writing in a Documentary (Television or Motion Picture) for her work on “Mr. Soul!”

Loira Limbal received a nomination for Outstanding Breakthrough Creative (Motion Picture) due to her work on “Through the Night,” a film coming to POV this May on PBS.

The 52nd NAACP Image Awards will air on BET Saturday, March 27, 2021, at 8:00 PM ET. Non-televised award categories will live stream over five nights March 22-26, 2021. The virtual ceremonies will recognize winners in more than 60 non-televised award categories in the fields of television and streaming, music, literature, film, and activism.
