PBS Welcomes New Member Station, WIPR Puerto Rico

ARLINGTON, VA; April 25, 2022— PBS announced today that WIPR Puerto Rico will become its newest member station, joining more than 330 local PBS stations across the U.S. and its territories. 
 
WIPR will offer the full PBS schedule through its linear broadcast, and WIPR viewers can watch PBS content on-demand on the PBS video apps and website. 

As a PBS member station, WIPR will now have access to PBS’s award-winning news and public affairs programming, independent film, science, drama and performing arts content, such as such as MASTERPIECE, AMERICAN EXPERIENCE, FRONTLINE, and more. WIPR’s youngest viewers will also have access to PBS KIDS, America's most trusted educational media brand, with content such as ALMA’S WAY, DANIEL TIGER’S NEIGHBORHOOD and SESAME STREET. 
 
WIPR currently produces up to 20 hours of local programming each day, including public affairs, culture, sports, music, talk and food shows, as well as at-home-learning programs that reach nearly 3.3 million viewers across the island. Notable WIPR programs include #EnCasaAprendo, Notiséis 360, El Show de Chucho.

WIPR can be seen over-the-air by local audiences on channel 6.1 in San Juan, 3.1 in Mayaguez, Liberty HD Channel 206, DIRECTV Channel 166, and Dish Channel 6 and Chanel 7.2. In addition, viewers can watch WIPR and PBS programming on digital platforms such as www.wipr.pr/envivo, www.pbs.org., PBS Passport and the PBS video app.

Wonderful Island of Puerto Rico (WIPR) was the first public television in Latin America. Inaugurated in 1958, has the mission of producing and disseminating educational, informative and cultural programming.  For more than 6 decades, WIPR served Puerto Rico and the Hispanic communities in the United States.
