ARLINGTON, VA; Dec. 6, 2023  On the passing of Norman Lear, television writer and producer, PBS President and CEO Paula Kerger shared the following statement.

“Norman Lear was a wonderful friend to PBS. He believed in the promise of public media to serve the public interest and represent a wide variety of viewpoints and experiences. He cared deeply about the promise of America and the power of democracy. His greatest gift to us was his reminder of the power of storytelling. His life and work served as a lesson that one of the best ways to talk about difficult subjects, and get people to listen, is through humor.

In his life, he brought joy to everything that he did. He was always looking forward, focused on what was next, and to the very end of his time, he made a tremendous difference. We are all the richer for having known him.”
