I'm seeing a motorcycle.
Tell us about this.
GUEST: My grandfather was a member of the West Texas based out of LEC motorcycle Polo Club.
His team played throughout Texas.
I heard they played as far west as El Paso, and apparently that was the league.
And they won that league.
And they heard about the Philadelphia area league and challenged them to the National Championship.
APPRAISER: Wow...
GUEST: ...and in 1934, my grandfather and I believe his seven teammates and the coach drove 1,700 miles to Philadelphia and won nine to seven.
APPRAISER: Your grandfather's right here, Joe Brown.
GUEST: Joe Brown.
APPRAISER: Motorcycles really started in the late 1800s, early 1900s.
The first American companies were Indian Motorcycles, which started in 1901 in Springfield, Massachusetts, and Harley-Davidson in Milwaukee.
There were organizations that were developed about for these enthusiasts, one was called the American Motorcycling Association.
That came in 1924, and they sponsored a lot of these championships like this one.
GUEST: I heard they did.
APPRAISER: Motorcycle polo, which a lot of people have never heard of, actually got started in the early 30s, but this leads me to believe from everything I've read, that this is probably the first motorcycle polo national championship trophy because I cannot find one any earlier.
GUEST: Wow.
APPRAISER: Today, believe it or not, it still is a sport in different parts of the world, and it is played very much like soccer.
But your grandfather was there at the very beginning.
What did your grandfather say about playing?
GUEST: He actually said in one of the articles that I've read that they rarely got out of first gear.
The only time they ever even got to second was when they had an empty field to get to the other end as quickly as possible.
APPRAISER: So they're really only going 5, 10 miles an hour.
A lot of motorcycle trophies, there's a wide disparity, and it's valued basically upon the year, the event, who participated.
It's that sort of historic importance and enduring legacy.
I'm assuming this is the only one, unless they all got them.
GUEST: I believe this is the only one.
Every player I understand got a pendant with the polo ball.
APPRAISER: I'd place an auction estimate of $2,000 to $4,000 on it.
GUEST: Awesome.
And that is a little bit higher than I expected and it's not going anywhere.
APPRAISER: If you're going to insure it, I insure it for about $5,000.
GUEST: Thank you very much.
