This was something that was always sort of proudly displayed in the living room.
His dad had passed it to him and then it passed to my dad and passed to me.
APPRAISER: Are you a Baltimore family?
GUEST: I'm a Baltimore family.
Correct.
APPRAISER: Well, this is a fabulous Baltimore silver.
So we have a teapot, a coffee pot, and a covered sugar.
It's by the Baltimore silver smith Charles Louis Boehme, who's working in the early part of the 19th century, probably made around 1805, 1810, so a little little over 200 years.
APPRAISER: And you know, we think about economy of the time to be able to entertain on this scale with this size coffee pots, teapots when you know, tea and coffee were so costly was really a sign of your status at the time.
You know, very much working in the federal style.
So the sort of you know hearkening to sort of classical Greek and Roman forms very elegant subtle design finials engraved decoration.
It has a family monogram on it as well and really you know just the epitome of what was stylish at the time.
Really large scale so it would have probably been part of a larger set.
There would have been a cream jug waste bowl.
There's a spoon here as well.
Probably predates the set a little bit.
So it may have passed down in the family but not part of the original set.
It's an important piece of you know history of that time GUEST: Absolutely period.
The scale is fabulous and a maker that is very desirable.
And for insurance purposes, I would look at a figure at around $30,000.
GUEST: Wow, that's amazing.
Do you think it's something that can actually be used?
Can it be used with coffee and tea in it?
APPRAISER: Absolutely.
GUEST: I am not sure.
APPRAISER: Give it a good cleaning first.
