In the late 60s, my father was in Vietnam.
We went to Disneyland.
When we came back, my aunts, they knew that I went to Disneyland, and then she gifted me this.
APPRAISER: Very cool.
It is not just a figurine.
This is a hood mascot or simply a hood ornament wow.
It was manufactured by the Desmo company out of England.
And we could tell that right on the back, when we see the impressed maker's mark here, "Desmo."
That mark, and in combination of the quality of the casting on this Mickey, makes us know it's 100% authentic.
And this would have been released in 1934.
Disneyland in California wasn't opened until 1955 so in the world of Disneyana collectibles, this is extremely early on the timeline.
It is a cast metal with a chrome finish, and there are a lot of variations of this hood ornament.
This is one of the more common ones, shorter side, Mickey with his hands on his hips looking very jovial there.
They also made a Minnie Mouse, and there are two variations of this hood ornament.
There's one like this, with the chrome plated finish.
And then there's also a painted example that would have had the iconic red shorts, you know, the black fur.
So this being the chrome smaller scale, it's not going to be the biggest money maker, but we know it's 100% authentic.
Have you ever had it appraised before, any idea what the value is?
GUEST: No idea.
APPRAISER: Condition is great, does not have that much oxidation on it with the chrome finish.
Conservatively at auction, I feel it would be $1,000 to $1,500.
GUEST: Very cool.
