I had acquired them about five years ago.
A friend of mine was going to have an estate sale.
Her grandfather collected Mark Twain.
I loved this little collection and bought it from her.
I paid $35 for the collection.
That was her price.
I do like Mark Twain, but I just thought it was the cutest collection.
APPRAISER: It's a collection of about 45 miniature books.
One of the things that I really found interesting about this collection was usually they're various types of books, various authors or illustrators, but I've never seen anyone have all Mark Twain.
Miniature book collecting actually started right when books started being printed back in the 1400's.
Books were big.
They were expensive.
Very few people could buy them.
But students who didn't have as big a budget, they actually had smaller books.
They might have been a little bigger than what these are, but they could fit in their pockets.
And that was sort of the beginning of miniature books.
And these are more later 20th century.
The people who do books like this, they're generally very small publishers.
Some of them specialize in miniature books.
There are whole societies of miniature book collectors, but also, anyone looks at this, and they can't help but smile and that's why it's a fun collection.
Have you looked into the value of them at all?
GUEST: I have not.
APPRAISER: Normally on the Roadshow, we have one or two books and it's easy to say, well, this one is this and this is this.
But for the full collection, I would say a retail value $2,000 to $3,000.
GUEST: Oh my gosh.
Oh, I had no idea.
