MUSIC >>Nick Rossi: The Rossi family has lived in this area for 107 years.

All of my memories.

The vast majority of my friends have emanated from this community.

MUSIC >>Debbie Rossi: Smile at everybody every day and say hello.

because you just never know when somebody just needs a smile.

You just never know where people are in their lives.

And so that's what I've always told my kids that everybody can be your friend.

They don't need to be your best friend.

They can be your friend.

>>Joe Wyatt: Both of them have never met a stranger.

They feed off the energy when they're around, groups of people.

>>Brian Cushard: They want to make sure that everybody has the opportunity to do better every day.

MUSIC >>Katie Rossi: They've been married for 42, going on 43 years.

>>Tom Rossi: They approach life as a unit.

>>Katie Rossi: They're kind of a package deal, those two.

>>Jared Rossi: family is huge for them.

>>Tom Rossi: Without her, he wouldn't be able to do all the things that he was able to do.

She's the unsung hero.

MUSIC >>Nick Rossi: Deb and I met at the University of Nevada in the late 1970s.

She was in a sorority, the Theta House.

I was in a fraternity, the Sigma Nu House.

So socially, we would see each other a lot.

And coincidentally, we also worked at Sears.

>>Debbie Rossi: I just wanted a great partner I just wanted a great partner in somebody who really, you know, cared about me and cared about what I care about, respected me.

And he did.

And I think we're mutually that way.

He was easy.

He means everything to me.

>>Nick Rossi: Deb is a remarkable wife.

She's a remarkable mom.

She's an incredible partner, a great conversationalist.

>>Katie Rossi: She's very engaging.

She's magnetic.

Almost.

She's magnetic.

Almost.

So everyone just wants to talk to her.

>>Tom Rossi: And my mom is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet.

>>Bishop Daniel Mueggenborg: She's one of the first people who will look around a room and see the person who's standing alone, and go and be with them.

>>Tom Rossi: I would say that if you're part of her group, she would go to the end of the world for you.

But everybody's part of her group.

People need to know that they are special, that they're loved, and I try to spread that.

I try to be that way.

>>Jared Rossi: She definitely looks for fun in what she's doing.

And if it's not there, I do believe that she'll probably just drum it up.

>>Joe Wyatt: Debbie is a NASCAR fan.

I talked them into going to their first NASCAR race.

>>Debbie Rossi: I did not want to go at all.

It just sounded very hokey.

But once I got there, I love it.

>>Vince Rossi: If you want to know about, Nevada basketball, ask Deb.

She does not miss a game.

MUSIC >>Tom Rossi: My dad is a man of extraordinary energy.

>>Nick Rossi: Growing up, one of four boys, we did everything together.

>>Vince Rossi: I think we all looked up to him until we were taller than him so.

I'm positive he's the shortest of the four of us.

>>Gus Rossi: I'm the tallest and the best looking brother.

>>Vince Rossi: I was number four.

He was number one, so I always looked up to him.

I always wanted to be wherever he was at in life.

I want to be able to walk to school from our little house that we lived at, or I want to be able to be in junior high like my brother.

>>Vince Rossi: Nick and I are a year and a half apart.

We did everything together.

>>Katie Rossi: All three of us were very active.

>>Tom Rossi: Coached me all through Little League.

He coached my brother and I in basketball.

He never missed a football game.

Never miss a wrestling match.

Never miss a swim meet.

>>Katie Rossi: They're very involved in our lives.

We get a lot of unsolicited advice.

Still do.

>>Jared Rossi: Neither of them ever backed off on constructive criticism.

>>Katie Rossi: Telling us, swim faster.

>>Jared Rossi: Extremely involved in ways you didn't need them to be involved.

It's just the way that they show they care.

>>Katie Rossi: There's not a lot of people who can say that there's at least somebody at all of your events.

It's hard when you work and you have a family, and they made sure to make time.

His job, I think, is his hobby.

He loves it.

>>Nick Rossi: Our business, LP insurance is about protecting people's lives and their assets.

At the very basis of what an insurance contract does.

>>Tom Rossi: LP does a lot of philanthropic work, it has to be the entire agency that buys into that, we are going to be not just employees here, but we're also citizens of of this community.

And as citizens of this community, we're all expected to do whatever we can.

>>Nick Rossi: Being able to blend our interest and our support for community projects seems to run hand-in-hand with our mission in support of protecting our community.

>>Brian Cushard: LP insurance financially supports over 300 organizations.

LP insurance gives time off to our employees to do charity work, simply because we feel that that experience gives back to our community and also to ourselves.

>>Marie Baxter: Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada is the largest humanitarian organization across our region.

We cover all of northern Nevada, and we operate eight different humanitarian programs from programs that help make sure that people have access to food, clothing, shelter, long term sober living support, immigration, legal services support, as well as a lot of work that we do helping families really on their journey to stabilization.

And part of our vision and our mission is really not only meeting people where they are, but helping them find a meaning and a purpose in their lives.

>>Debbie Rossi: I love Catholic Charities because they don't judge.

You don't have to be a Catholic to be a part of it.

They just want to help everybody.

MUSIC >>Debbie Rossi: I have a big garden.

All this overage of the garden goes to Saint Vincent's and I love it.

I love knowing that it's helping people.

I hate to throw anything away.

>>Nick Rossi: I don't know what the life beyond what we live looks like.

But I do know this.

I feel it in my heart.

I feel it in my soul that you will be measured.

By what you've done for the least among us.

Those who need the most help.

I don't know why people, find themselves in a circumstance where they're waking up on a cold January day, next to the Truckee River.

I do know this, they're hungry.

>>Vince Rossi: Feeding the poor, clothing the naked, housing the homeless and, and helping the mentally ill out there.

>>Marie Baxter: It's no judgment.

It's get in there.

Let's just see what we can do to help elevate people.

>>Mike Wurm: Nick and Debbie are very instrumental and have been in my entire time at the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows They are just pillars of this community.

>>Nick Rossi: What really resonated to me when I got on the board was, it's a place where America can come together.

We have children that are all shapes, all sizes, all ethnicities, and all socioeconomic brackets.

And to me, I think that's America at its best.

Every organization has KPIs, key performance indicators.

How about these for KPIs?

1 million meals served to children.

10,000 or more children being members.

No child turned away.

Those are pretty good KPIs.

>>Trish Bullentini: I think Nick's number one hobby is the Yankees.

>>Joe Wyatt: Nick is a huge Yankees fan.

>>Mario Bullentini: He knows every, the past, the present.

He knows every play that he can remember in a world Series.

>>Katie Rossi: The Yankees affect the mood in that house, during baseball season.

>>Nick Rossi: My dad is growing up in the 1940s.

11, 12 years old, playing sandlot baseball.

Who is winning championships?

New York Yankees.

Now, if you look around that lineup at that time, Yogi Berra, their catcher, Italian, their shortstop Phil Rizzuto, Italian, their ace pitcher Vic Raschi, Italian, their third base coach, Frank Crosetti.

Yes, Italian.

And then, of course, who's in center field?

Joe DiMaggio.

>>Jared Rossi: I'm not a huge baseball fan.

Don't, don't get me wrong.

I'll wear a Red Sox hat if I need to.

MUSIC >>Mario Bullentini: They will do anything and everything for charitable events.

They always find a way to help.

>>Tom Rossi: I think for a normal person it would be hard.

But for them, it's what they do and it's part of who they are.

>>Jared Rossi: They integrated that into their life.

>>Trish Bullentini: They seem like they have a presence at all these charitable events, and I don't know how they find time to do it.

I mean, there's so many hours in a day.

I think they find it very rewarding.

>>Jared Rossi: God, I hope so.

I mean, if they don't, then is this cruel and unusual punishment what they're doing to themselves?

>>Len Savage: They really understand, the long game.

The big picture in life, they do so much for so many people and it's heartwarming.

>>Taylor Adams: I think as we look back 50 years from now, that the way that they engaged in the work of the community will have lasting tentacles and effects, they're impossible to quantify today, but but will be remembered forever.

>>Tom Rossi: Their life philosophy would be every day is a day where you can change the world in a meaningful way.

>>Katie Rossi: You're blessed with your life and really the purpose is to just create change.

>>Bishop Mueggenborg: I think that their philanthropic legacy will in large part be unknown because they're so quiet in their benefaction.

And so I don't think many people will ever realize the extent of their charitable works for the community of Reno.

>>Vince Rossi: They do it because it's the right thing.

>>Tom Rossi: It's more important to them that a kid who was hungry got some food.

>>Katie Rossi: They definitely deserve the recognition.

They do more than any of us, even though they don't want it.

But they should have it.

>>Debbie Rossi: I actually am fine with not being remembered.

I am good with just doing what I like to do.

I'm good with helping out those who I want to help out.

And for those people who receive it to be maybe a step better.

If somebody doesn't remember me for that, that's okay.

I'm okay.

>>Nick Rossi: I don't need to be remembered for my charity work.

I have been blessed so many times over in terms of the benefits that I've derived literally as a human being, by being able to give.

The gift that I've received as far greater than whatever I've given.
