January 27,2004
|
Everyone talks loudly about how those who founded this country were Christians. Thomas Jefferson himself had LITTLE good to say about Christianity and reckoned it one of the most odious and self-serving institutions ever invented by man. In a letter to his nephew, Peter Carr, Jefferson once wrote, "The Christian god can be easily pictured as virtually the same as the many ancient gods of past civilizations. The Christian god is a three headed monster; cruel, vengeful and capricious. If one wishes to know more of this raging, three headed beast-like god, one only needs to look at the caliber of the people who say they serve him. They are always of two classes: fools and hypocrites." This does NOT sound as if this greatest of our founders was a "Christian" in any sense.

I think that this act would show a clear favortism in 1 religion (christianity) and would be in violation of the constitution, and in my opinion would belittle all the other religions in America saying only christianity is good enough to be put in a government based establishment.

January 27,2004
|
A courthouse by its nature implies authority and to place a religious symbol in that setting implies belief in the power that it represents- in this case - the Christian religion. Indeed, depending on the wording and the style in may imply not just Christianity but the evangelical segment of Christianity.

The 10 commandments are without question the basis for our system of law & the freedoms & liberties we enjoy in this nation, from its founding. That should be recognized & honored today & in every age.

The laws of our nation were built upon the tem commandments. They should stand in public view in our courts. The concept of separation of church and state is being abused by the liberal courts.

The criminal court judges those who commit crime, if the criminals obeyed the ten commandments, they wouldn't be in that situation. The ten commandments are God's law that the laws of man uphold. Our founding fathers had no problem recognizing God in their courts neither should we.

January 27,2004

I think it important to remember that this country was founded, not generally, on religious freedom but, instead, specifically, on Christian religious freedom. It is impossible and wholly impractical to try to seperate our foundation from our lives today.

January 27,2004

There is nothing in the 10 commandments that hurts people, but only encourages good moral standards and values. And if you don't believe in God, maybe you should go back where you came from because our country was built on God.

January 27,2004
|
The Ten Commandments are not the relgion of one man, but of millions of men and women. This country's legal system is founded on the basic tennets of the Ten Commandments. In this country we must respect the rights of the minority but the majority is not abliged to surrender, unconditionaly, to the minority. As a repulic, we must ensure that the majority rules. The majority has the right to ensure its ideas and philosphy prevail so long as that philosphy does not jepodize life, liberty and the presute of happiness.
Thank-you.

Some prominent, dominent people are so narrow minded and self righteous that they cannot even imagine how intiminating such would be to a person of a faith different than their own.

January 27,2004
|
This country was built from the Christian faith. Our currency displays our faith with "In God we trust". Our oaths of office and our oath in court are on the bible and we swear to "Tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help me God". So does that mean a non believer doesn't have to keep their oath or can lie in court? Even though it is the government and not the church that gives it's citizen the freedom of religion, the Christian faith is still and always should be the religion of this land.

January 27,2004
|
By displaying a religious monument in a state courthouse, the state is blatantly favoring a certain religion.
And for a person to say that this country was founded on those Christian beliefs and that they should still be at the heart of America today, they are saying that others in this country who do not share those same beliefs are therefore less American.

January 27,2004
|
It is hard to believe that there would be such objection to a particular cultural display of laws that teach respect of others.
Flashpoint mentioned a Muslim who might be offended, yet Muslims believe Moses was a prophet, and the commandments are part of the Jewish and Christian culture so I do not believe they are offensive to the majority of Americans.

January 27,2004
|
I believe that the ten commandments should be anywhere that children (some of which would never see them or know about them), can see and learn what it is that the men and women of our armed forces sacrifice their lives for each and every day, the freedom to believe in something that teaches love of God and CONSEQUENCES of bad behavior.

If the church has no voice in the courthouse the court has no voice in the church. You then have no right to tall me what I can and can not preach. Who I will and will not let in the pulpit. Don't force me to use who I do not want to.
