I believe that any one who subscribes to the ten commandments while siting in judgement of others is a hyprocrite, especially when that judgement leads to killing. This country proforms killing every day which is antheical to "Thou shalt not Kill." There is not an exception clause in the 10 commanments.

Religious propaganda must be kept out of the halls of American justice. Law is written and spoken in language intended to be precise and unambiguous as possible. It deals with the finite and tangible. If all parties have different value sets, wherein the final authority, the judge, above all bases his or her interpretations upon medievil presumptions the law seems but a farce. Religion has no place in universal justice.

Why should one particular religious group be allowed to place their scripture in a courthouse?
The state needs to treat all citizens as equals, regardless of their religious preferences and beliefs.

The language that the supreme court uses is not even in the first amendment. You cannot find the words seperation of church anywhere in the constitution. We are now basing opinions and laws on a statement that was never in the original text. How much in error can we now be and how far from the original intent have ventured.

... SAFETY FOR WE THE PEOPLE ...
January 29,2004

UPON THE ASHES OF THE COMMON LIBERTIES AND PRIVILEGES OF ALL HAS RISEN A SECULAR AUTHORITY OF GOVERNMENTAL EXPRESSION OF INTERPRETATED LAW IN THE JUDICIAL BRANCH. THIS AUTHORITY OPERATES AS A METHOD OF USURPING THE CONSTITUTED POWERS: THAT IN THE FOUNDATION OF A GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE WAS NOT ORIGINALLY INSTITUTED AS A GOVERNMENT FOR THE PEOPLE.
TODAYS POWERFUL LEGAL ORGANIZATION HAVE BECOME SELF-APPOINTED GUARDIANS OF THE WILL OF THE MAJORITY, IN THE REALM OF EQUAL RELIGIOUS RIGHTS AND PRIVILEGES. GIVEN A SWORD OF SEPARATION BY JUDICIAL INTERPRETATION FORGED BY THE POWER AND PROCESS OF LAWSUIT. LAWSUIT AS A PROCESS CAN JUSTLY ONLY REPRESENT THE INDIVIDUAL OR FACTION INVOLVED IN LAWSUIT AS A FORM OF REDRESS. THE EQUAL RIGHT OF REDRESS AND THE POWER TO SUE UNDER THE STATUS OF TAXPAYER EXISTS FOR ALL.
THE POWER OF TAXATION IN PURPOSE AND INTENT AFTER APPROPREATION AND DISTRIBUTION IS THE POWER THAT THE INDIVIDUAL AND FACTION HAVE ATTACHED THEIR GRIEVENCE OF OFFENDED CONSCIENCE, AS AN OBJECTION TO THE PATRIOTIC PRACTIES OF PUBLIC SCHOOLS THAT THE SUPREME COURT RULED AS RELIGIOUS IN 1963. THE COURT ALSO PROFILED THE MAJORITY AS CHRISTIAN USING A CENSUS BUREAU REPORT OF 1962 THAT REFLECTED CERTIAN CHURCH ATTENDENCE. THE COURT ALSO RULED THE HOLY BIBILE TO BE SOLEY A CHRISTIAN DOCUMENT.
MANY, IF NOT ALL WOULD CONSIDER SUCH RELIGIOUS PROFILING AN ILLEGAL ACT, ALONG THE LINES OF RACIAL PROFILING. INDEED THE CONSTITUTION FORBIDS SUCH ACTS PREJUDICE BY THE GOVERNMENTAL POWERS. THESE IMPORTANT POINTS BRING FOURTH MANY QUESTIONS YET UNANSWERED CONCERNING TODAY'S FORM OF SEPARATION. MOST IF NOT ALL OF THESE FACTS HAVE BEEN FORGOTTEN IN TODAY'S FORM OF SECULAR SEPARATION.
MANY HAVE ALSO FORGOTTEN THAT THE TEN COMMANDMENTS STONE WAS NOT THE BEGINNING OF THE PROCESS IN RELATION TO JUDGE MOORE'S REMOVAL. IT ALL BEGAN WITH A LITTLE PLAGUE BEHIND HIS BENCH IN A LOWER COURT SETTING. ONE HAS TO WONDER IF THE INDIVIDUAL OR FACTION THAT APPEARED IN THAT JUDICIAL ATOMSOHERE FOR JUDGEMENT HAS NOW FOUND A WAY TO REMOVE THE JUDGE THAT MAY PASS SENTENCE UPON THEM IN A MANNER THAT GRIEVES NOT ONLY THE CONSCIENCE BUT CREATES A BURDEN UPON THE WALLET AS WELL? IT IS CLEAR THAT JUDGE ROY MOORE WAS REMOVED FROM HIS BENCH ON THE LOWER COURT. THE PEOPLE OF ALABAMA HOWEVER VOTED HIM THE HONOR TO SET UPON THE HIGHEST COURT IN THE STATE AS CHIEF JUSTICE. IT NOW SEEMS THAT THE POWER THAT REMOVED HIM FROM HIS SEAT AT THE LOWER COURT LEVEL, ALSO CONTROLS THE HIGHER COURT LEVEL UNDER THE FLAG OF RELIGIOUS CONSCIENCE OFFENSE.
TO ME THE REAL ISSUE NOW IS NOT THAT THE STONE WAS ROLLED AWAY, BECAUSE THIS IS NOT THE FIRST STONE TO BE ROLLED AWAY AND IT WAS FOUND THAT GOD WAS NOT THERE. THE ISSUE IS JUDGE ROY MOORE HAS POWERFUL FOES WHO HAVE REMOVED HIM FROM OFFICE TWICE UNDER THE SAME CHARGE AND VOWED NOT TO REST UNTIL HE HAS BEEN DISBARRED FROM PRACTING LAW AS A MEANS OF SUPPORTING HIS OWN HOUSEHOLD. SUCH A POWERFUL SPIRIT LEAVES US ALL WITH THE QUESTION; IF A CHIEF JUSTICE IS NOT PROTECTED BY THE CONSTITUTION FROM RELIGIOUS PROSECUTION OR PERSECUTION, THEN WHERE IS THE SAFETY FOR WE THE PEOPLE?

Yes, the 10 commandments should be place anywhere we the public want them to be placed.
Why should we get offended at something that says don't murder or covet someone else's spouse unless we are doing everything it says we should not do?
HUM!!!!Could it be conviction?????

This country was not, is not, and will never be founded on "christian values." Our courts should be able to say the same. need we remind ourselves that the rules in the ten commandments are NOT universal law. Only two reflect the laws in action in our country today.

What a misguided, non-sequitor reply. There is no "LIE" involved by those who utter and believe the Truth. All secular law is dead and moot in the water when if violates the Bible. There is no other source of the Truth to humans. Lincoln said as much. Finally, Christ gives no option....You are either with Me or you are against Me (paraphrased)"

This country is based on judeo-christian beliefs and morals. The American experiment will fail if not based on these beliefs. The ten commandments is the core of the faith of the majority of Americans.

I think a monument of the Ten Commandments should be allowed to stand in a courthouse - especially when the monument is a gift from a person/orginization. Since when is it right to 'look a gift horse in the mouth'?

... the "real" ten ...
January 29,2004
|
Why aren't the 'real' ten commandments posted? Perhaps if they were, religion - particularly Christianity, would be seen for what it is. A bit silly.
This is a bit long, and will probably get truncated. So, I encourage you to look it up. Study the religion in which you believe.
These are the ten commandments that God carved into stone and Moses brought down from the mountain. Included are a few versus before and after to establish the context.
Exodus 34:11-35 King James Version:
------
Observe thou that which I command thee this day: behold, I drive out before thee the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite.
Take heed to thyself, lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land whither thou goest, lest it be for a snare in the midst of thee:
But ye shall destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down their groves for thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is jealous, is a jealous God.
Lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they go a whoring after their gods, and do sacrifice unto their gods, and one call thee, and thou eat of his sacrifice; and thou take of their daughters unto thy sons, and their daughters go a whoring after their gods, and make thy sons go a whoring after their gods.
(I) Thou shalt make thee no molten gods.
(II) The feast of unleavened bread shalt thou keep. Seven days thou shalt eat unleavened bread, as I commanded thee, in the time of the month Abib: for in the month Abib thou camest out from Egypt.
(III) All that openeth the matrix is mine; and every firstling among thy cattle, whether ox or sheep, that is male.
(IV) But the firstling of an ass thou shalt redeem with a lamb: and if thou redeem him not, then shalt thou break his neck. All the firstborn of thy sons thou shalt redeem. And none shall appear before me empty.
(V) Six days thou shalt work, but on the seventh day thou shalt rest in earing time and in harvest thou shalt rest.
(VI) And thou shalt observe the feast of weeks, of the firstfruits of wheat harvest, and the feast of ingathering at the year's end.
(VII) Thrice in the year shall all your men children appear before the Lord GOD, the God of Israel. For I will cast out the nations before thee, and enlarge thy borders: neither shall any man desire thy land, when thou shalt go up to appear before the LORD thy God thrice in the year.
(VIII) Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leaven; neither shall the sacrifice of the feast of the passover be left unto the morning.
(IX) The first of the firstfruits of thy land thou shalt bring unto the house of the LORD thy God.
(X) Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Write thou these words: for after the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with thee and with Israel.
And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.

January 28,2004
|
The first settlers in this country were Christians who came here to have freedom to practice Christianity as they wanted without pressure from a government. There were no Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, etc. involved. Consequently, according to our national heritage, there is nothing wrong with displaying exclusively Biblical topics in public places.

Another poster wrote:
"In God We Trust" engraved upon our money; the phrase: "under God" in our pledge of allegiance; and the President placing his hand on the Bible during the swearing-in ceremony all reflect a fundamental historical fact: this country's laws and constitution were designed upon the laws and precepts found in the Bible."
The phrase "In God We Trust" did not grace all of our money until the 20th Century. The same is true for the "Under God" part of the Pledge.
There is no requirement to swear upon a Bible, nor any mention of God in the Presidential Oath outlined in the Constitution.
Read your Constitution and the Bible very, very carefully. You will find no mention of God in the former, and no mention of representative democracy, freedom of speech or religion, or fundamental human rights in the latter.
