Religious icons should be treasured by those who believe in them. They should not be placed on display in government buildings.

Katherine , SC Strongly Disagree

... other religions have a right ...

January 27,2004

If we agree to display the ten commandments from the Christian religion, then other religions have a right to display laws from their religions. I don't think many Americans would put up with that! Our churches are here to teach their religion.

January 27,2004

It is a severe violaiton of the Constitution to Prohibit the display of the Ten Commandments anywhere in America.

... it's ok to express ...

January 27,2004

This country was founded on the gospel and it's ok to express and remind people of what kept this nation from perishing. Besides, people still swear using the Bible, might us well, have it open on what they are swearing by.

Richard, NJ Strongly Agree

... beginning of a persecution ...

January 27,2004

It is part of the foundation of our country. I my opinion the separation of church and state means that government should not make any laws to favor one religion over another. It doesn't mean that expression of any religion has to be struck from all public places. In effect, the current mood seems to almost be a beginning of a persecution of particular expressions of faith that flies in the face of of bill of rights.

... Congress cannot give power ...

January 27,2004

An establishment and respect refer to a powerful privileged exclusive group given deferential honor. Congress cannot give power to such groups over the rights and privileges of the smallest minority. I do stand for the first amendment and the language used.

... founding fathers used sayings of Christ as their m ...

January 27,2004

The majority of the founding fathers and the early chief justices of the Supreme Court used the Decalogue and the sayings of Christ as their moral basis. In fact, they stated that the Constitution would be successful only if used to govern a people who took the Bible as their moral authority.

John, OH Strongly Agree

... keeping church out of the state. ...

January 27,2004

Separating church and state should not mean keeping church out of the state.

Mark, MI Strongly Disagree

... created a secular nation. ...

January 27,2004

The founding fathers of this nation were secular and created a secular nation. When asked by Tripoli in 1796 if this nation was christian they responded with: "the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion" (Treaty with the Bey and People of Tripoli, article 11)

Donna, TN Strongly Agree

... government of the church. ...

January 27,2004

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..." from the Bill of Rights. The Founding Fathers intended to keep the government of the church.

i strongly agree that the 10 commandments should remain in the courthouse in alabama. our country was founded on christian principles and that is the way it should stay. thanks

... monument still protected ...

January 27,2004

Isn't a religious monument still protected under the Freedom Of Speech Law in the USA whether or not the monument is on public or private land? Do not Atheists also have the right &/or opportunity to display their disbeliefs / opinions under the Freedom Of Speech Act ,in religion? Freedom Of Speech is being denied here by the removal of any religious monument unless perhaps the majority of the immediate inhabitants of a populated area came into agree to have the religious monument removed. Freedom Of Speech. Another view.

January 27,2004

God is supreme and we have to remember that.

Mo, NY Strongly Disagree

... America is a different place ...

January 27,2004

Courts are houses for those of all faiths or no faith. Regardless of the framers' religion in the 18th century, America is a different place in modern times with citizens practicing many different religions.

Tom, KY Strongly Disagree

... unsuitable for display ...

January 27,2004

I do not believe that religious objects of any kind belong in government buildings. My personal belief is in the Judeo-Christian diety but I recognize that others do not share that belief. While I may adhere to the Ten Commandments and think they provide excellent guidlines for all, the fact that they require and promote belief in the Judeo-Christian diety would in my opinion make them unsuitable for display in government buildings.

Su Hardema, SC Strongly Agree

... let them stand ...

January 27,2004

Our laws and most laws around the world are based on the 10 commandments. OUr counry was founded on the principals outlined in the 10 Commandments. We all want to be treated according to the tennants of the 10 Commandments. So let them stand for themselves and point the way to peace among men. After all, there would be peace if everyone lived according to the 10 Commandments and practiced the Golden Rule!

Wild_bill, TX Strongly Agree

... the world recognize a higher power ...

January 27,2004

In God We Trust - All nations of the world recognize a higher power of reason in the spirit of humankind, if we only beleive in ourselves we have recognised that we must beleive in something. The Jewish beleive in one GOD almighty, the gentiles proclaim Jesus as their savor and guide to the knowledge of GOD almighty, even the Muslim faith has Mohammed as their guide to a spiritual relationship with the one GOD almighty ./. All three of these religious (groups) agree with the other from GOD down to Abraham then they have there separations.

The GAY and Lesbians want the same business benefits as married couples .... the government has a blind eye to the understanding that same sex relationships are a business entity and not a matrimonial issue.

If the government would recognise same sex relations as a business entity most of those people involed in these relationships would probably not have any use for religious or marriage.

what is the real issues and solutions is the question.

January 27,2004

US law governs citizens of all faiths, and of none.

Anna, NY Strongly Disagree

... made up of people of various origins ...

January 27,2004

Not every member of our society believes in the religion specifically upholding the Ten Commandments. Our country is a nation made up of people of various origins and religion. By allowing such a monument to stand in a public place of such significance as the state courthouse, we are sending a message that those who are not christian are indeed outsiders to this country and to the laws of the state and the courts.
