... freedoms that we cherish
...
January 28,2004

The history of this great land is based on Christian views derived purely from the Bible. You can not deny that fact. The father's of this great nation came here for religious freedom, the freedom to worship the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Not Muhammed, or any other god. This land was founded on bible principles, the law was founded on biblical principles. It is only because of the freedoms that we cherish that those opposed to God and Bible are fighting. I just have to add, God will not be defeated. He does not need the Christian defending Him. And He will have the final say!

Every governmental building in America has some reference to God built into it. Wether its etched in the stone, or on a placard, or part of the bronze work, you can find the name of God. It makes no sense therefore to deny a display of the Ten Commandments of God (which is a foundation of His law)in a state courthouse where the word of God was used as a foundation for the creation of the State itself.

Of course not. Public property should never reflect the ideolgies of one group's belief system overlooking everyone else. That is why we supposedly have freedom to worship.

... I want God ...
January 28,2004
|
I am a Muslim and I believe in the Ten Commandments. I wanted to make this known to all because in yesterday's program, Gwen Ifil commented that the Muslims do not believe in the Ten Commandments and that it would be offensive to them. I totally disagree with her commnent because the Muslims believe in the Prophethood of Moses and the revelation which he received. The only difference is that the Ten Commandments are not listed in the Quran in the way that it is in the Torah.
I am a citizen of America and also a practicing and believing Muslim. I want God to be a major part of this country.
Thank you

Posting the ten commandments will ultimately be devisive, even among Jews and Christians, who in fact have different versions. The TC's also contain explicit intruction on who and when to worship. Not appropriate.

WHEN THERE EXIST A POWER TO DECLARE WORDS UNCONSTITUTIONAL UPON A STONE MANY BELIEVE TO BE WRITTEN IN STONE BY THE ALMIGHTY HAND OF THE CREATOR ESTABLISHING RULE OF LAW FOR STATE & CHURCH GOVERNMENT. THEN THERE EXISTS A POWER TO DECLARE WORDS WRITTEN UPON PAPER ABOUT A CREATOR WHO GRANTS UNALIENABLE RIGHTS BY WHICH WE AS A NATION BASE THE RULE OF LAW UPON THE BELIEF, THAT ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL. WHETHER OR NOT THOSE WORDS ARE WRITTEN IN A DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE OR UPON A STONE IS NO SMALL MATTER. THE QUESTIONS FOR WE THE PEOPLE IS SHOULD THAT POWER BE A REASONABLE EXPRESSION OF AUTHORITY OF GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE OR FOR THE PEOPLE ABLE TO OPERATE IN THE SPIRIT OF SEPARATION OR SEGERGATION AS A SYSTEM OF REGULATION UPON THE PRIVILAGE OF EVERY CITIZEN TO PRACTICE OR HOLD A CONSCIENCE FORM OF BELIEF? SHOULD THE INTERPRETIVE POWERS OF THE JUDICIAL AUTHORITY BE ABLE IN THE PROCESS OF REVIEWING LAWSUIT BE ABLE TO ESTABLISH A METHOD OF SECULAR CONTROL OVER THE CONSTITUTED BODIES OF CONGRESS OR EXECETIVE BRANCH OR INSTITUE POLICY CONSIDER AS LAW TO REGULATE THE FREE OF CONSCIENCE OF ALL, TO PROTECT THE SENSITIVITY OF THE INDIVIDUAL OR FACTION INVOLVED IN LAWSUIT? AFTER ALL IS SAID AND DONE THE LEGACY OF GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE IS ONE OF CONSTITUTIONAL AUTHORITY AND NOT ONE OF SECULAR AND NO INTERPRETATION OF THE HIGHEST COURT CAN ERASE THAT TRUTH. THE GOVERNMENT BY LAWSUIT AS A METHOD TO ESTABLISH SECULAR AUTHORITY MUST BE PALACED IN CHECK OR THE LIBERTY OF ALL BECOME SUBDUED TO JUDICIAL INTERPRETATION GRANTING A DIVINE RIGHT OF CONSCIENCE PROTECTION FOR THOSE INVOVLED IN LAWSUIT. THIS IS NOT A GOVERNMENT EXPRESSION OF AUTHORITY FOR THE PEOPLE OR OF THE PEOPLE. BUT ONLY REPRESENTS THE FORTUNATE WHO CAN CLAIM CONSCIENCE OFFENSE IN A COURT OF LAW UNDER THE INTERPRETATION OF THE ESTABLISHMENT CLAUSE. WHICH REQUIRES NO PROOF TO BRING LAWSUIT TO BEAR AGAINST THOSE OF EQUAL CONSCIENCE RIGHT IN THE REALM OF RELIGIOUS EXPRESSION.

Governments shouldn't be in the business of promoting any religion. If that monument would have been left standing other religions probably would have wanted one too. And I bet if that would have been a monument of something from the Koran, Christians would have had a fit.

You tell me! Why is it that man is so afraid to see 10 basic truths of faith, on which we know our fore Fathers lived by. Yet we have thousands of laws throwen in our face, to prortect the rights of both thee inocent, and the guilty.

January 28,2004
|
If you are so quick to say "separation of church and state," why are you so quick to involve the state in court battles to have religion removed? The very people that want the government free from religion are the same ones that keep involving the government over religious issues. Isn't that double standards?

... nation of diverse ...
January 28,2004
|
I don't view this as a religious issue. It has become one because the Supreme Court has allowed the degradation of our morality to the point that we are self governing. The United States of America's founding fathers based our society and Judicial System on the 10 Commandments. We were founded as a Christian Nation. That is why Washington DC is papered with the 10 Commandments. It is the foundation of why we are the greatest nation on earth. We are a nation of diverse religions, ethinicity, and languages but our nation was NOT founded by them. But the 10 Commandments allows the freedom of those diversitys.
Our nation can NOT survive without these standards. In the history of the world, no nation has survived the plunge into the social justice of individual rights. Hypocrosy and immorality soon follow.

Without the ten commandments, every one will do what is right in their own eyes regardless of how it affects others. We will end end with a lawlwss society in which anyone can murder, steal etc. and say that their actions are right for them.

January 28,2004
|
I notice that many respondants who say it's okay to post the 10 Commandments react very strongly against the idea of posting monuments to other religions like Scientology. It seems the attitude is "As long as it's MY religion, it's okay." This is blatant self-serving hypocrisy.

... no one church should impose
...
January 28,2004
|
The subject of separation of church and state means that no one established religion governs, like the Catholic church since the Middle Ages persecuted and killed any who did not obey their rules. This persecution led many to flee to this country. Our founding fathers made sure to separate the church from the governing state so that no one church should impose any one interpretation of religion on the citizens of this new found land. But our founding fathers were godly men who had a clear understanding that freedom was given by God and not by man. Had these men not respected the ten commandments and feared God then there would have been a different version of the Constitution and of this nation. Fear God and keep his commandments is the whole duty of man.

... religious interference ...
January 28,2004
|
There is a separation of church and state in this country for a reason--to protect religions from government interference. I also believe it protects all citizens from religioius interference in our private lives. If I go into a government building that has religious symbols in it, how am I supposed to believe I will be treated fairly when my religious views are different from those displayed through the symbols?

... not a doctrine
...
January 28,2004
|
The Ten Commandments is a doctrine of Judeo-Christian history. It is not a doctrine of the birth and growth of a nation. Why not inscribed the Bill of Rights in Stone. As the Judge stated, he believes this is a Christian nation designed by Christians and Christian principles. Although one is entitled to an opinion, it is not a fact. His very arguement is why I believe we have the Bill of Rights to protect us from such righteous arrogant beliefs.
