... one group will dominate all others
...
January 27,2004
|
If we begin to allow any one social group to set policy whatever their motives, we begin to lose the freedoms to which we are all entitled. When we homogenize our laws to suit the belifs of one social set, that one group will dominate all others, creating tyrrany, reversing all our Constitution seeks to guarantee.

I think the ten commandments should be displayed in every courtroom in each courthouse in the good ole usa.when you are there waiting for your case to be tried you might just look upon the wall and wish you had lived by them.

... freedom of religion, not freedom from religion.

Is it wrong to hope that the people who find themselves in a courthouse might find some wisdom there, might actually pay attention to and have respect for the most basic rules of conduct-don't murder, don't steal, don't lie, honor God? That so-called thinking people would deem the posting of the Ten Commandments to be anything but a good thing is incomprehensible to me. Any truly diligent researcher would have to acknowledge that this country's laws were based on Biblical principals. It's what America's earliest underpinnings have been about - freedom of religion, not freedom from religion.

To ensure a just and diverse legal system, ensuring rights to all, it can not display a preferance for one single religion.

To agree with the statement would be consistent with the the statement that the role of religion in Iran is correct.

If the display would not include the equivalent texts from all religions, the implication would be that this is the United States of Christianity.

... not the business of government
...
January 27,2004

I wonder if the people who want the Ten Commandments in their courthouse would be as enthusiastic about an icon that was not Christian. Why not have a statue or painting of the Buddha? All religions have the developing kind, compassionate people, but it is not the business of government to give one preference.

... we need to keep our nation sane

I speak for both myself and my husband. The 10 commandments should be allowed in public places as well as those of us who care to display on our own yard signs. They are items we need to keep our nation on a sane level.

... we will soon have no standard
...
January 27,2004

The laws given in the bible served as a guideline for the laws we now have in this nation. The bible commandments are considered to be the "original" law used to govern society. Can we not use it to represent that we are governed by greater standards and not the biggest gun on the block. If we do not hold to some standard then we will soon have no standard.

... Why not display

Our law system in the United States is based on the ten commandments. If you don't believe that-read them. Why not display in a public place the foundation of our system of laws?

I am more concerned with having the fundamentals of the Ten Commandments enforced over the display of them. As a christian I would love to see the foundation of my beliefs displayed in a public building, but I would be more happy to see them practiced.

Our goverment was founded on freedom OF religion, not freedom from religion. The ten commandments are not only a religious symbol, they are the backbone of the country.

... people of ALL faiths are Americans
...
January 27,2004
|
Christians need to respect the fact in this country that people of ALL faiths are Americans. If this govt. reflects the ideas of only christian faith, instead of a higher god or spirituality in a broader sense, it will fail to represent all Americans.
