Francisco Ruiz Massieu was the ex-husband of Adriana Salinas and friend and long-time political ally of Carlos Salinas. He had just been elected General Secretary of the PRI when he was gunned down in Mexico City September 28, 1994. He was the former governor of the state of Guerrero.
