Welcome to my web comments.
I'm Mikayla Daniels here with a bit more about the Saturday Cinema broadcast of “My Week with Marilyn” from 2011.
Now, I feel that this film gives a bit of an inside peek into filmmaking in the 1950s, which is really fun for those who have no idea what that looked like.
Did you know that the reenactment scenes from the film The Prince and the showgirl, were filmed on the same soundstage as the original film?
I love that the filmmakers brought in that piece of authenticity to this film.
Another throwback to that film is Ian Murray as the stand by rigger for this film.
His adopted grandfather, Jack Thompson, was the standby rigger on The Prince and the showgirl in 1957.
Now, you may be saying to yourself, that's interesting, but what the heck is a rigger?
Well, a rigger works on a stage and operates ropes, booms, lifts and hoists, amongst other things, for film or television programs.
The original canvas backdrops of theaters were manipulated by ropes and pulleys, which were derived from sail making skills from boats.
So modern fly systems arose from these foundations.
British theaters have a reputation for never whistling on stage, because the riggers use the exact whistle directions on stage as they did aboard ships.
The riggers could interpret a misplaced whistle as a command to adjust the settings on set.
They are in charge of assembling and disassembling equipment such as scaffolding, cables, and ropes.
They collaborate with various departments in film, television, and commercial productions, including sound effects and stunts.
They will collaborate with these departments to create rigging that meets the production needs.
This frequently necessitates the creation of custom structures based on lighting sch Now, it is important to note that this is a dramatic film and not a documentary.
While it is based on two books about Monroe, those books were written by Clark, and we have to remember it was all his perspective, and that perspective will always have some bias.
The film itself highly exaggerates and glamorize the actual account of Cole and Clark's relationship with Marilyn Monroe, and with others, too.
In reality, Clark had contempt for Monroe, who he thought of as a helplessly neurotic being the real life equivalent of Lucy, played by Emma Watson, was a working class girl whom Clark simply wanted to seduce.
Although he regarded her as stupid.
Far from being the naive innocent portrayed by Eddie Redmayne, Clark was also having an affair with a much older woman.
At the time, he was marginally involved in the filming of The Prince and the showgirl, and admitted in a book to taking part in sexual activities with some of the actors in the movie.
While drunk.
While the filmmakers clearly adopted the Monroe Clark relationship to something, it wasn't in order to make the film have a more idealized version of events.
That doesn't mean this dramatic story isn't entertaining.
