... portrayed as news
...
September 17,2003
|
The television media, without question sensationlizes situations such as Kobe Bryant, JLo, the Williams' sisters' older sister's death, etc. Some situations are portrayed as news which are only passing events.
The Flashpoints USA was the best program I've seen in years.

... case in point ...
September 17,2003
|
The uproar over the Dixie Chicks is a case in point. The CEO from Cumulus was being treated as if he was a government official instead of a private corporate executive making a business decision. Accusing him of censorship is ridiculous. That is like saying that a publisher who refuses to publish my book is censoring me or interfering with my right to free commerce.

... disservice to the country
...
September 17,2003

The media is doing a disservice to the country. By focusing on sensationalism rather than being informative on subjects that help people make good decision as they relate to our society and democracy, i.e. loss of after school programs for 600,000 children The list goes on.

news media today is only interested in creating news for ratings, not reporting the facts as the who, what, when and where.a person can't or shouldn't believe every thing said by the media.

... concrete issues
...
September 17,2003

Who is it that contributes to ratings acceleration on sensational stories like Kobe Bryant and Laci Peterson? I can hardly change the channel quickly enough to escape the latest scintillating update. These are not stories that I discuss with friends or co-workers as we are much more interested in the concrete issues that affect our everyday life.

... Gossip makes news.
...
September 17,2003
|
Gossip makes news. It's a shame that we as Americans so desire to hear the shadowy side to every story. We want to know who's sleeping with who. The media simply feed this addiction. It's our nicotine patch. When's the last time you saw a headline that read "Husband and Wife Married for 65 Years" ? We don't celebrate that which is amazing. We celebrate that which is gossip.

... who can blame them? ...
September 17,2003
|
Yes, they do overdo some stories and yes they are probably more concerned with substance. But, who can blame them? If people pay attention to whatever media medium you put in front of them, then you have succeeded. Besides, those stories are the kinds that keep people's attention.

... am tired of hearing the same
...
September 17,2003

I too am tired of hearing the same boring old news over and over. I feel that reporters are getting lazy. No one wants to look and find stories anymore, instead reporters wait for the story to happen and come to them. Where have all the bloodthirsty journalists gone?

... they are in the spotlight

I definetely agree. If it was not Koby Bryant no one would make a big deal about it. It is only because they are in the spotlight that they receive so much coverage.
