"News organizations tend to overdo reporting of sensational stories like the Kobe Bryant trial and are more concerned with ratings than substance."

I have to agree. It seems as if there's a downward spiral at work here. The media heavily report on sorid stories that, in reality only affect the parties directly involved (Laci Peterson, Kobe Bryant, OJ Simpson for example). The media give them coverage because we viewers voraciously consume it. But in my admittedly unscientific polling of friends in the media and consumers of media neither group respects such coverage nor particularly even "likes" it. So what gives? If no one truly likes reporting it or likes watching it (for whatever reasons) why is there so much of it?

Curiousier and curiouser...

... the same story retold a hundred times ...

I think this is true, but sad. If they would just give us a little more varied reporting maybe they wouldn't all sound the same.

The most amazing thing is when they all start reporting what each other reported - Today the Washington Post reported ....

Blah, blah, blah - the same story retold a hundred times is just as gross.

Mitchell, ID Strongly Disagree

... people watch it ...

I don't think you can call it over-reporting if people watch it. These are businesses after all, operating under the laws of supply and demand.

They are only supplying the drivel our sensation-hungry society craves.

I am tired of Kobe Bryant and all the rest. Can't I just find out what's happening in the world??
