... coverage was extreme ...

I think the Kobe Bryant coverage was extreme. I was dying for more substantive news, such as, the fact that so many Americans lack health care, jobs as increasingly scarce, the quality of life in the USA is sinking fast, and so on. I particularly want to know where does the President think we Americans are going to get the money to rebuild Iraq? We need to upgrade our own infrastructure!

... way overdoes ...

September 17,2003

News media way, way overdoes coverage of sensational stories that don't really matter: Laci Peterson?, Kobe Bryant?, Chandra Levy, even 9/11. Let the stories develop and report on DEVELOPMENTS, not rumors.

Like other corporations it is all about money. Our couch potato society have become voyeurs proded on by the media.

September 17,2003

The day that I heard Tom Brokow reading all of the Monica tapes for hour after hour, I knew we had turned a corner and a story that should only been done in print rather on TV I am from Iowa, always listed to Tom and can no longer listen to his voice..

... Sick of hearing ...

Great show! There are a lot of great stories out there that never get seen or heard. Most stations use the bad stories as a basis for describing life in a certain city, town, hood, etc. Sometimes this is correct but there are a wealth of stories about people doing great things! Kobe is stupid and should have known better. Sick of hearing about those Hollyweird types, Jen and Ben, Sex in the City and other crap. I would rather see stories about a scientist who is working on an AIDs vaccine.

... I am concerned ...

September 17,2003

I am not interested in the trials and tribulations of celebrities like Kobe, J-lo, and others like them who are out looking for attention. They are all on ego trips. I am concerned about our country when it is in danger, about our children who are lacking health care and education, our elders who are neglected, about our country's economic health and the countries who rely on us for their betterment.

... Where's the balance? ...

September 17,2003

As an example: 9 out of the 21 content minutes of my evening news broadcast consist of SPORTS. Another 3 minutes are devoted to Ben Affleck/J-Lopez.
7 minutes are devoted to world current events.
Where's the balance?

John, CA Strongly Agree

... focusing ...

September 17,2003

too much unnecessary time is spent on news that is meaningless not focusing on real problems that concern the public and government involvement.

... Just the facts ...

September 17,2003

I switch channels or turn TV /radio off when that happens. I never watched one minute or read anything of the OJ trial. Celebrities are just normal humans. I refuse to watch TV news car chases. I also dislike the way the news channels spend so much time saying "Coming up in the next hour" I prefer the news to be like BBC used to do it 20 years ago. -- Just the facts.

... constant talking head ...

September 17,2003

I believe that covering the media with non-news 24/7 is merely a cover up of more important issues that for some reason the media doesn't want to touch. There are so many instances of this that I will not start, but issues much more important to Americans than Kolby or Laci are only lightly touched on TV news. For instance, what if we did 24/7 of "Where are the WMD?" or constant talking head analysis of Cheney and Halliburton and closed bids, and why we're really in Iraq, and non-stop nightly leads about what programs Bush's executive orders are cutting and how is it that the majority of Americans still think Iraq is responsible for 911.

What's sad is that Americans think they are well informed.
