Two cheap plastic fans are blowing. One fan is out of balance, squeaking out a protest at every revolution. The space would be shabby by U.S. standards, maybe even repulsive to some. Sawdust and cigarette butts cover the floor. The kitchen is a crude jumble of water pipes and jerrybuilt gas stoves placed just meters from an even-more-minimalist bathroom. Faucets, soda coolers and row upon row of shishas -- the hubbly-bubbly water pipes -- line the walls.
