Saving Our Seeds

Clip | 6m 58s Video has closed captioning.

Open a seed catalog from 1903 and you’ll see many plant types that have since disappeared. Today, commercial agriculture uses a small number of hybrid plants--a lack of diversity that puts our food supply at risk. To combat this, Seeds Savers Exchange promotes “heirloom” seeds that might otherwise be lost, through sales, seed trading and an innovative “seed library” in La Crosse, WI.
