Tom, CA Undecided

... absolute confidence ...

September 17,2003

It depends on the news organization. I have no confidence in a news organization which must continuously remind it's watchers they're "Fair and Balanced." I have absolute confidence in news organizations who actually are fair and balanced, such as NPR.

Lorraine, OR Strongly Agree

... propaganda ...

September 17,2003

When I listen to independent or foreign news it becomes apparent the propaganda the put forward by Clear Channel, etal.

Alene, WA Agree

... blatantly anti-liberal ...

September 17,2003

You have to look for signs of bias. I think ABC, NBC, and CBS were pretty fair during and after the Iraq war; if you watched and listened closely you could see that they were not giving a 100% "patriotic" viewpoint.
I am thoroughly disgusted with Fox which is blatantly anti-liberal.

At present I am distrustful of NBC because of signs (such as the rerun of that Bush interview before 9/11) that they are pandering too much to the Administration-- maybe because of orders from the corporation that owns them.

I read three liberal newspapers on the Internet, and offset these with Google News alerts, which regularly quote Rush Limbaugh and other extreme conservatives, and give me a variety of points of view from around the world.

Ed, CA Agree

... local coverage is suffering ...

September 17,2003

Yes,but local coverage is suffering! The consolidation of the media is best discribed in the words of Lord Acton: "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." Thank God for PBS and our last few remaining radio and tv stations!

Dj Thunder, AZ Strongly Disagree

... watch local TV ...

September 17,2003

Well, you watch local TV and they show the same story at the same time as their competitors. The difference?? Each story's content is incorrect.

Melton, CA Strongly Disagree

... equal foes ...

September 17,2003

Unfortunately, most news organizations cover the same thing their competitors are covering. The invasion of Iraq was known as WAR ON IRAQ, not the invasion it really was. It wasn't a war, that's usually between two relatively equal foes. There was practically no alternative reporting covering the effect of the "War On Iraq" on the rest of the world...that will ultimately affect the US anyway. The problem is that if an American doesn't die or isn't affected by a story, it's not covered. In an increasingly smaller, more diverse and interdependent world, that doesn't fly.

John, CA Disagree

... station dictates ...

September 17,2003

unfortinatly the select news reporter has really no choice of what he or she has to report because the station dictates what is said and what is limited on the subject not all facts are present its too one sided.

Dale, CA Strongly Disagree

... learned the mechanics ...

September 17,2003

Too many journalists have learned the mechanics of writing or reporting, but lack the basic knowledge necessary to understand the subjects they report. The least intelligent students now go into journalism or education.

David, CA Strongly Disagree

... no longer trust ...

September 17,2003

Janet Cook, et al.
We remember, and we no longer trust the media.

However, I'd still love to propose marriage to Gwen Ifill.

Cindy, OR Disagree

... very encouraging ...

September 17,2003

I have never believed much of what I've seen in the New York Times. Much of it is bias or distortions.
FOX News is very encouraging.
Rush Limbaugh, Michael Reagan, and Michael Savage are terrific.
