I think that there is a liberal bias in the news

I have a B.A. in History from UCLA, and I can tell you without hesitation that the U.S. media is extremely biased in reporting at every level. T.V., radio, magazines, newspapers, books, and so on are towing the interests of a minority of individuals, who own properties, businesses, have money and contacts. Editors are carefully manipulating public opinion, this includes the PBS channels. Stories are carefully picked to focus and manipulate public awareness. The "World" and its History are far larger than represented. There are many more opinions and points of view which are valid, and obvious, yet never mentioned. Indeed, my line of work, Security Officer, brings me in contact with many different people. Even the very poor and uneducated are aware of the bias in the media to an amazing degree. Some Americans, especially those who have access to resources(money, land, manpower, and contacts), no surprise here in that they also happen to be white and arrogant, believe that most "minor

Up until recent years we only had ABC, NBC, CBS, and CNN to get our news from. Now we have FOX News (Fair and Balanced), Media Research Center, Bill O'Reilly, Michael Savage, Neal Boortz (www.boortz.com), Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Bret Hume weekday evenings at 5:00pm cdst on FOX News Channel. The liberals have ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, PBS, and PRN to obtain the Democratic Party lies.
GOD BLESS PRESIDENT BUSH - A man of great leadership, moral integrity and honesty. Bill Clinton was asleep at the wheel of the Presidency and did not go after the terrorist! Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton both have a reprobate mind and remind me of Nicolae & Elana Ceausescu! (Former President of Romania)

Mainstream or dominant media is firmly entrenched corporate power. This 'fourth estate' limits information sometimes willingly - in the form of 'embedded journalists' in Iraq) or passively - such as working so very closely with government in helping provide a mouthpiece.

There are numerous examples of corporate media outlets censoring or sidelining important stories or information. Journalists are fired for being very effective at investigative journalism or for insisting upon the integrity of their stories. Ad infinitum.

An alternative and liberated media exists. It is a patchwork of various cultures and progressive elements that seeks to give a whole story: uncensored and from the principle of unfettered information access to all people.

... have the audacity ...

September 19,2003

How can PBS News seriously pose the aforementioned question after PBS repeatedly aired Beth Sanders' documentary, "Fear and Favor in the Newsroom" (c.'96)?

The real point of this current American journalism episode is the further discrediting of your efforts; i.e., Ms. Ifill and Mr. Bryant know of the Sanders' expose or they don't, so in either case the public disservice continues through journalism's blatant coverup or appalling ignorance.

WE American people are being seriously cheated out of our 1st Amendment protection by YOUR damn vested interests. You people tell us what you want, the way you want, when you want, and then have the audacity to act as if you believe that we don't know it.

Please, hit me with a chair, the pain wouldn't be so bad!

September 19,2003

I tend to believe what I hear on NPR, my major source of news; but I wouldn't believe unquestioningly for a minute something that was only on Fox CNN or even some of the more respectable networks. I also read BBC online and tend to believe them, though as with NPR not totally noncritically.
I believe my local newspaper for local news, it seems surprizingly
fair for a rather small newspaper in Mississippi. I accept more or
less the news that I hear on PBS, but I don't listen to it nearly
as much as radio.
So I would answer the question above, strongly agree for NPR and BBC,
agree for my local newspaper for local news, and strongly disagree
for FOX and their kind.

September 18,2003

I believe the program "Flashpoints USA" was a case in itself for the disbelief of credibility in the media. Just the question asked about why or why not wear a flag pin, displayed the left wing slant of those involved. To equate the nation's flag with the administration in office is ridiculous. I wear an American flag pin because I am an American and I believe in this nation. It does NOT necessarily infer that I back whatever administration is in the white house.

I have high confidence is some 'alternative' sources such as
The Nation and reports by activist groups I'm familiar with on the internet, such as Amnesty... there is better access to independent (amateur) journalism than before
As for TV or major newspapers, forget it - they are only in it for profits.

September 18,2003

The media, especially PBS, is so strongly oriented LIBERAL that it is a crying shame that show like FLASHPOINT receive government funding when there is NO chance in HELL that Bryant and Gwen much less PBS will present a fair and UNBIASED program.
