... BBC is far better ...

September 16,2003

I read reputable newspapers from around the world on the Internet. If I can, so can Fox, CNN, NBC, etc. There is much that they do not report and much that they cover in a skewed and biased fashion. But what most disturbs me are the "talk" segments when the "journalist" doesn't actually ask the guest any tough questions, does not press issues, and lets them off when they fudge. The BBC is far better than the US TV outlets. They actually have in-depth reports and discussions (like PBS used to be!) But, Great Britain hasn't deregulated their media in the VAST ways the US has. I hope they resist the temptation!

... "MINDLESS" REPETITION ...

September 16,2003

THE "OVERKILL COVERAGE" IS OPPRESSIVE. YES WE TEND TO WATCH IT FOR AN OCCASIONAL NEW KERNEL OF "NEW" INFO. BUT I TEND TO TURN OFF THE "MINDLESS" (NO OFFENSE) REPETITION.

Juanita, NM Strongly Disagree

... isn't even a "token ...

September 16,2003

How can I possibly view this show as "fair and unbiased" when there isn't even a "token" representative from the station that is being discussed?

Clarence, IL Strongly Disagree

... never been reported accurately ...

September 16,2003

Whenever I have been involved in an event that was reported in the media, that event has never been reported accurately.

Bob, WI Disagree

... approach news critically ...

September 16,2003

It depends on what we mean by 'news organization.' Fox, for example, functions as an arm of the Republican party, so I don't count it as a news organization. Those news organizations that are owned by giant conglomerates are ultimately controlled by them. I think that has an unsubtle influence on what they report and how they report it. I think it's wise to approach news critically and to get news from as broad a cross section of sources as possible.

Andy, WI Strongly Disagree

... waving the flag ...

September 16,2003

If Brokaw is worried about "waving the flag," tell him to start doing his broadcasts from Baghdad. Oh, that's right, America has freed Iraq!!

Brett, NE Strongly Agree

... What ever happened to facts ...

September 16,2003

I strongly agree. If one is to closely listen to what is actually being said, the majority of the statements contain the words, 'could','should','may' or 'might' These are all conditionl statements. What ever happened to facts. Rather that researching the story they speculate about what happened or will happen. Why would you believe this. By watching Die Deutsche Welle on the Scala channel, I get more in depth and concise information on what is happening in America then I do from our own news stations. It is highly more fact based and believable.

Rosalyn Zi, WI Strongly Disagree

... biased toward the right ...

September 16,2003

I cannot believe in the credibility of news reporting when I see news biased toward the right, but silenced to the left.

I cannot trust news credibility when I hear and see biased news that reports only what this person in the whitehouse says, and then learn, as I suspected, that his statements are lies.

Michael, NC Strongly Disagree

... no faith ...

September 16,2003

I have almost no faith in the fidelity or reliability of the news any report. It really amuses me to hear many of you give interpretation or explaination of scientific and medical things. I always recall where almost all "journalism" students stood in the academic hierarchy,

Pure fact recitation would do. And remember that radio and tv persons have done even less than the workers to develop the information stream and likely know the least.

Wayne, FL Strongly Disagree

... zero confidence ...

September 16,2003

I have zero confidence in the credibility of virtually all major media outlets in the U.S. - print, radio or television (both cable and network, including PBS). I get all of my news from the websites of the BBC and other British and Canadian papers. They at least seem to adhere to some level of journalistic professionalism and integrity.
