Corporate news organizations have repeatedly demonstated their focus on ratings that often amounts to an unconscionable hypocrisy (e.g. Iraq war). If, in the words on Noam Chomsky, "democracy is nowadays an endangered species", the identities of the threatening 'predators' are well known. The world would be better without them.

September 17,2003

I think what I take issue with the most is that the news we are presented in the United States is homogeneous. Edited in a way to accomodate the political and economical standings of the corporate enity itself. In short," what's good for business." I have actually been able to achieve a better perspective of an event or news story by reviewing other news agencies coverage of that same news item. What is disheartening and often frightening is that these alternate news agencies give me more qualative information are usually not American but other world news organizations. I believe there is an attempt to sway public opinion on issuses in order to control the destiny of the political and economic authority of our monied corporations. As in war "Truth is the first casualty."

September 17,2003

I don't trust in the credibility of the news everywhere, except on a few programs on Fox News, and on conservative talk radio. Liberals are leading us down the toilet--like supporting Clinton. You don't know what we really like. Logic and honesty and character are traits of conservatives. Clinton was a terrible example of an American. You folks pander to the Clintons and other liberals. Support Bush. He has earned it!

Your program just reconfirmed why I choose not to watch the NBC, ABC, CBS, and PBC news. After years of only these choices and being frustrated with the left leaning, errogant anchors, it is definitely nice to have a complete and rounded view of the news from FOX. So, PBS thinks FOX is conservative, I often feel they lean right, left and in between. You, PBS, are reporting your side with my money and when you seem to take a sense of joy putting down, for instance, Bill O'Rielly of FOX News,it just shows me how sad it is to watch you. Your arrogance that everyone agrees with you seems to be your view only. Hurrah, we finally have choices and I feel you all might be running a bit scared.

... on a rampage ...

September 17,2003

The majority of mainstream media clearly has a huge liberal bias, and is more concerned with sensationalism, leftist agenda, and making a buck than anything else. Time after time I have witnessed an unwillingness to report things fairly and objectively on the part of this out of control liberal propaganda mouthpiece. Whenever the issue of, say, firearms ownership comes up; frequently the mainstream media absolutely reports heavily spun or incorrect, if not outright fabricated statistics to support the anti-Constitution gun haters.
The left always cries wolf for itself to further its own agenda at the cost of accurate, objective, rational, fair information. Just tonight that stupid Toomey woman was screaming censorship of the repugnant Dixie Chicks because Cumulus Broadcasting and others paid heed to listeners who exercised THEIR FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHT to let radio stations know they no longer wanted to support those un-American, spoiled little trollops' music, and as a result these little wenches' music was pulled from playlists. However, good old Miss Toomey, in true and typical--if not downright stereotypical--crybaby leftist fashion whined that her precious Dixie Chicks had been unfairly censored. Nevermind the Constitutionally GUARANTEED RIGHTS OF LISTENERS' VOICES TO BE HEARD BOYCOTTING SAID "MUSIC". NEVERMIND THE RIGHT OF THE RADIO STATIONS TO PLAY OR PULL WHATEVER THEIR LISTENERS INDICATE AS UNDESIRABLE.
And, in true mainstream media fashion; more time was spent bellowing about the imagined unfairness of this "horrible act of censorship" than on the rights of people not to hear anti-American drivel from idiots like the Dixie Chicks. The left wing, liberal oxygen thieves running rampant are far more guilty of actual censorship than anyone else, save perhaps communist and muslim dictators. It's the leftists who dreamed up & continue to support the thought & speech censorship of "political correctness", the legal system censorship of "hate crimes" which take already illegal acts and give them elevated status due to race, religion, skin color, or sexual orientation of the victims. The liberals want to censor the Second Amendment by restricting or altogether eliminating the Constitutionall guaranteed rights of law abiding citizens to keep and bear arms. It's the leftist/liberals who are on a rampage to eliminate all semblances of Christianity from the public and from this country.

... news downloads ...

September 17,2003

I have watched and read news now for some 40 years. Today, there is less fact reporting and a lot more opinion pieces in media, but especially on television and in news magazines. I have resorted to reading worldwide online newspapers to get a balanced view of world events. I also have C band satellite so that I can review news downloads and compare with news reported on television. This practice has been illuminating, to say the least.

... we must be belivable ...

September 17,2003

To be persuasive we must be belivable; to be belivable we must be credible; credible we must be truthful...Edward R. Murrow said it best. The news organizations of today are at a loss of how to report the truth. Credibility is of question when they pander to the lowest commen denominator of allowing the business of the news to get in the way of the news.

... little diplomatic ...

September 17,2003

many times I see stories that are called news that is more about grabing viewers that true news.
while news can contain drama, news shouldnt be about the drama.
if media and TV shows were on the computer where you could actually PICK your programing I believe you would see a big shift in bad programing and bad news.
and on the subject of the dixie chicks story when your any famous person you have more ability than the average person to spread your freedom of speech but you also can risk your occupation as it relies on people buying your product (movie or music) so the idea isnt to shut up, its to think if you want to use your star power to get your message out you must be willing for people to dissagree with you and protest by not buying your product and IF you do, at least be a little diplomatic about making bad coments about our president in a time of war while at a concert in a foreign country.
