my heart is sick when i see things described as news which are simply prurient morbidities such as lacy peterson or chaundra levy. even more disgusting is the untrustworthiness of cable news. of course every journalist has a bias but he should act ethically to present the facts. what we have now is fox network which has not a bias but an active agenda which acts in lock-step with the bush administration as a propaganda machine in the same relationship hitler shared with goebbel's propaganda machine. this is actually a threat to democracy. presently we have leaders who appear to be as corrupt as mobuto sesi seko and who are not only war profiteers but have engineered through lies the very war they are profitting from. where is the media investigating halliburton? why do we hear endlessly of kobe bryant instead?

As a newspaper reporter and editor, being skeptical of what I heard and read was an integral part of the job. Now, as a consumer of news, that skepticism is no less essential. Looking critically at news is a necessity for anyone who wants to be accurately informed.

I have almost no confidence in the credibility of most news stations. The most I can trust them is to gather that "something happened" and if I piece together enough sources I just might filter out the editorial slants and still get a warped picture of the news. The News Hour with Jim Lehrer is the only program available in which I have significant confidence.

I have a NO level of confidence in the credibility and reporting of news organizations. Once you get past selectivity of the assignment desk, personal views of the reporter on the scene, and the rewrites of the producer and on air personality.

Your show from the outset points out the obvious reasons why I have little confidence in the credibility of news organizations. The fact that the news media is owned by corporations who invariably dictate policy.

There are too many important stories out there that go unreported - or if they are reported they are given a "soft" touch w/o any savvy or deep investigating. Very much like your show this week. You picked a great topic and took it nowhere. Ironically most of the people you had on were all employees of media conglomerates. How cutting edge to have people on like a columnist from cutting edge periodicals like TV Guide.

I think I'll take your advice and as a consumer I'll make sure to never again waste an hour of my time watching your show.

Too bad though. You've no idea how hungry people are for the truth.

Everything you see and hear on the media has to be interpreted from the perspective that we only see what "sells". This colors what we see and how it is presented. Television "journalists" fool themselves when they talk about the media as serving some "higher purpose", such as uncovering the truth, or informing the public. Their sole reason for existence is to attract an audience and sell product at the commercial break. Whenever their "higher purpose" conflicts with the business model, they quickly are reminded of the purpose they serve. All of the media distortions and pathologies discussed tonight stem from that fundamental truth.

I have been dismayed by the level of disinformation being put forth by the news organizations I used to trust. I have had to go outside of the mainstream (public and private media) to get information I feel I can trust.
