... endorse a freedom
...
January 27,2004
|
A recognition of God is a reflection of a set of core values which endorse a freedom to choose one's personal religious beliefs. To proclaim reverence of God and recognition of His role in this country strengthens not weakens the fundamental rights of its citizens.

... phony connection
...
January 27,2004
|
I find this phony connection between religion or faith and ethics and morality maddening. How can people look at, for example, the pedophilic Roman Catholic priests on the one hand and the humanitarian giving of atheist Bill Gates on the other and conclude the connection between ethical living and religious superstition?

... no role in my life
...
January 27,2004

I'm an atheist and religion plays absolutely no role in my life. I know that any transgression I commit, I must answer for and I cannot be absolved by some mythical creature.

... integral to my total existance

January 27,2004

Faith is integral to my total existance. It's about my relationship with God and everyone else. It's an inward principle worked out in my daily life. Otherwise what use would it be?

... you must search for God
...
January 27,2004
|
Good vs Bad.If you have these concepts then you look beyond self; and you acknowledge God. If you acknowledge God then you seek to comply to God and the good; then you must search for God and not play ostrich. The only one claiming and demonstrating to be God is Jesus.

... The law is the law of God
...
January 27,2004
|
First of all, America is the richest country in the world and reason for Americas success is because of the blessings bestowed upon it from God Almighty and all it's freedom and strenght was not gotten by politicians nor any man himself but of God Himself and through the giving of His Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord and saviour. God blessed the pilgrims in obtaining this land because of thier faith in Him. This land was built on the ten commandments. Stop trying to do away with Christianity because it's only a matter of time that you will all be crying and longing for the religion and it's beliefs. The law is the law of God; the Ten Commandments.

I am a fairly ethical person, but I keep "god" and religous teachings, which I do not agree with, completely out of my decision making process.

... what this nation is really built on
...
January 27,2004
|
I think that it is sad the way some people in power have twisted the truths of what this nation is really built on. I did not grow up a Christian but I know that this country was founded upon thse beliefs and I believe we have been blessed greatly because of them. I do believe in Jesus, and what he stands for. I pray often for this country and the religious standards we now believe in or in some cases don't believe in.

... a true Christian leader
...
January 27,2004

Judge Roy Moore exemplifies what it means to be a true Christian leader. He also is very effective in debunking the false concept of "separation of church and state" that so many people have been duped into believing.

... no one has ever prevented anyone from praying
...
January 27,2004
|
For me, the issues are simple. If you believe that abortion constitutes some form of murder, then you certainly shouldn’t have one. If you believe that homosexuality is a morally misguided lifestyle, as opposed to a genetic disposition as science has just about proven, then that is not the way you should live your life. If you believe that school prayer should be reinstated, I would remind you that no one has ever prevented anyone from praying in school. The law only says that the school shall not lead the prayer, for in doing so the school would espouse the tenets of the prayer and thereby violate the separation of church and state provision set forth by our founding fathers.
As Americans, we are free to believe whatever we like. However, our individual freedoms end at the point where we infringe upon the freedoms of others. To force your beliefs on the rest of us by way of law is un-American, to say nothing of un-Christian. Except in the individual hearts and minds of those who create and enforce our laws, religion and religious beliefs have no place in our government. In fact, they may very well constitute a conflict of interest.

... Religion is more than a label
...
January 27,2004
|
If i do not allow a significant place in my life for God, then i am not religious by definition. However, that does not mean that I can't live with people of other faiths. Your question implies that religion is something that I do on on religious holidays; that I am only associating myself with a religious sect. Religion is more than a label, such as liberal or conservative. It has to mean something. I am puzzled at why this culture is on a course to eradicate religious belief. The alternative is a value system, too.

... we are all in big trouble
...
January 27,2004
|
I believe the wisest thing a person can do is to put their total trust in the God of the Bible. It is the only book (holy or otherwise) that contains the phrase "thus saith the LORD." If God cannot be relied upon to accurately communicate His will to human beings, then we are all in big trouble and ultimately have no hope or assurance of anything in this world or that which lies beyond.

I find facts, reason, and logic a MUCH more useful basis for making decisions than trying to decipher the will of some mythical being.

... God to play a public role ...
January 27,2004
|
I do believe that there must be a clear separation between religion and the state. Allowing religious faith and/or a belief in God to play a public role in the establishment of laws, the functioning of our public schools or in our public buildings does not protect our freedom to or, just as importantly, from religion.

... stand up to what is right
...
January 27,2004
|
Our country was founded upon God and His laws, not man's laws. We are not obligated to pacify people who come here from another country and are
offended by what religiously is allowed in schools and government buildings in regards to God. If they are offended, then they should go back to their country and worship the way that their country 'allows' them to worship. We should be bold and able to stand up to what is right, holy and just, without the fear of offending someone else. Of course, if the 'religious' people are offended when something is taken away that doesn't matter does it?
In reference to same sex marriages, I would like to ask the Episcopalian minister where it says in the Bible that God supports homosexual and lesbian relationships.

If we take God out of America, America will fall. We have been blessed by God and will continue to be a strong nation as long as we, as a nation, don't throw God by the wayside.
