... fear for the future

February 07,2004

My Christian beliefs are the framework for the way I would like to live, although I seldom succeed. I fear for the future of this nation that no longer acknowledges a power greater than "US."

... protect both religion ...
February 05,2004
|
I see that the current administration's efforts to fund faith based charities to provide help for the needy as a threat to chruch state separation which, by the way, this wall of separation is designed to protect both religion and government from corruption, except for the particular brand of religion who assumes power. Funding religious based charities is tantamount to imposing a religious tax on everyone including those who are not christians, muslims and atheists, agnostics, freethinkers, Jews and the eighty odd other religious beliefs. In my opinion, this is one of the greatest threats to a present political system, imperfect as it is.

... play no role in my life
...
February 05,2004
|
I consider all gods to be myth and therefore play no role in my life.
I am offended by people and government that think they have a right to have their opinions supported by my tax dollars.
I believe in the dictionary definition that faith is a "belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence" and I, therefore, consider faith to be nothing more than wishfull thinking or perhaps a form of mental illness.

February 05,2004
|
Although I do not practice an organized religion, I do have a basic moral belief that has to do with God as I understand God. And although I am not a Christian, I do follow the teachings of Christ as I understand them because they seem to me to represent good and good sense

February 05,2004
|
My life is lived by my faith in GOD'S WORD/Jesus Christ ~ not necessarily the 'teachings of my church.'
Faith is only as good as it's object ~ and the only faithful object is Christ Jesus.

... the moral direction
...
February 04,2004
|
When the cornerstone of the Washington Monument was laid on July 4th, 1848, deposited within it were many items including the Holy Bible presented by the Bible Society. Praise be to God! Such was the discipline, the moral direction, the spiritual mood given by the founder and first President of our unique democracy ..."One Nation, Under God."
I am awed by Washington's prayer for America. Have you never read it? Well now is your unique opportunity, so read on!
"Almighty God; We make our earnest prayer that Thou wilt keep the United States in Thy holy protection; that Thou wilt incline the hearts of the citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to government; and
entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another and for their fellow
citizens of the United states at large." And finally that Thou wilt most graciously
be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy, and to demean
ourselves with that charity, humility, and pacific temper of mind which were the
characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed religion, and without a
humble imitation of whose example in these things we can never hope to be a happy
nation. Grant our supplication, we beseech Thee, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen."
As you probably guessed, over 92 percent of Americans like the idea that our Pledge of Allegiance includes the phrase "under God." It is clear when one studies the history of our great nation, that Washington's America was one of the few countries in all the world established under the guidance, direction and banner of Almighty God, to whom was given all praise, honor and worship by the
great men who formed and fashioned her pivotal foundations. When one stops to observe the inscriptions found in public places all over our nation's capitol, he or she will easily find the signature of God, as it is
unmistakably inscribed everywhere you look.
Though many try to disprove and reason, their arguments are weak and easily
proven without basis. Their efforts will forever be in vain; God assures us of
that. Have you noticed as of late, how many more people are coming together,
affirming the fact that this nation was, from the beginning, built on God?
Any nation that is not built upon God will fail. The truth is . . .
We have always been one nation under God!

Religion plays no role in my life. My acts and all of my actions are based on my personal core value those being to put man and earth above anything else including God and government and to treat all those around equally and with respect.

... protections from coercive religion
...
February 03,2004
|
I am an atheist, pure and simple. I am confident that my Consitutional protections from coercive religion will, in the long run, be effective. My concern is with the "unconscious" application of religious beliefs, such as the laws against polygamy in the US, despite the fact that many religions - Islam, Mormons, Buddhists, Animists, and many others - have no such proscriptions.

... Why would I not go to my CREATOR
...
February 01,2004
|
Religion does not play a large role in my life - GOD does. There is only ONE, true god and that is Jesus Christ. Why would I not go to my CREATOR for all of the decisions I make daily? He knows what is best for me and I would be lost without him. The reason for the corruptness of society is wholey due to the fact that we have, as a nation, strayed away from the Creator, Jesus Christ.

... America is freedom ...
February 01,2004
|
I am very tired of those few that make noise and succeed to make those in government think they are speaking for the majority. They are not, the majority are living day to day and want to believe in what they believe. The Majority of Americans believe in one form of God and only the loud mouth minority try to get their way and change the policies. The 10 commandments are good words for all to live by. "One Nation Under God" is America and Pray is a important to the family life. The Same sex marriage, the removal of the 10 commandments is wrong. But this is America and I believe in Merry Christmas, God and Freedom to live my life the way I want. ONE NATION UNDER GOD .
Next thing they will try to remove all the crosses from government property. Well I would like them try to remove all the crosses from Arlington cementary. America is freedom, So let Freedom ring and if you don't like something ignor it like the majority has done in the past of the few.

I agree that it is good to try to follow the highest calling that you have. However, I disagree that it takes "God" to force people to act with the highest moral principles. I believe in God, but not the "cultic" application of provincial ideas upon others. I strongly believe in the separation of church and state, so that every religion (and non-religion) may have equal status in tolerance of each other. Religion should be esoteric, and the exoteric should be taken care of by fair non-sectarian laws.

January 31,2004
|
In general, I think the younger generation are willing to take religion out of their daily lives (personal decisions). In regards, I've done a field research on 30 University students, from different religions/cultures. Though most believe in God, by a large margin, most were supportive of taking religion out of Politics & separating church and school. Of course, talking to peers have also made the point clear that religion should stay out of public functions.

... evil to thrive ...

Simply stated, religion = evil. Anything that keeps people on their knees when they should be on the ball is evil. For as one man put it: the only thing necessary for evil to thrive is for good men to do nothing.

... not had a good track record
...
January 30,2004
|
We should have a concern about a religion influencing or dictating government policy anywhere, including the United States. Religious influence and involvement in governments throughout the history of man has been repressive, brutal, condemning and has stunted the growth of knowledge. It has not had a good track record or been very healthy for civilization.

... will get worse.
...
January 30,2004
|
We've taken prayer out of our schools and look what has happened: More school shootings, drugs, divorce and kids and parents that don't care about themselves. If we take the God out of the pledge it will get worse. Our kids need to know there is a God and He loves us. One day this world will be no more as we know it. God sent His Son Jesus to this world to save the world not to condim it. One day Jesus' God's son will come to get His children to live with Him. One day this world will be no more. God made every living thing upon this earth. I beg you to pray and except Jesus as your savior. God sent His son Jesus to the world to save us. Jesus died on a cross, surffered and died for you. He shed His blood for your sins. He will forgive all your sins, all you have to do ask for forgivness and believe in
Him. With out Jesus we would be dead.

... don’t rely on fantasy
...
January 30,2004
|
I make all of my decisions on a day to day basis on a rational and logical thought processes that due to my intelligence level, I have the power to make. I don’t rely on fantasy or dictates from a theological leader to make my decisions. “I” am soley responsible for all of my actions and would not have it any other way.
