As a Catholic, I use my upbringing and my faith as guidance. I disagree with secular society that they can do whatever they want to do.

I feel that it is difficult to make decisions based on religion. There is no way that I can do this on everything that is done in everyday life.

January 28,2004
|
America is GREAT because it was founded on GOD-ly principles.
We put God on the back burner and plunge headlong into a sheer state of hedonism and our country will cease to be great. We will no longer stand out in exclusivity because of our once-godly foundation but crumble because that foundation is being chipped away.

It is never rational to make decisions in life based upon how you think some invisible magic being will react to the decision. Intelligent people make decisions based upon pragmatic, rational considerations.

... Americas fled from the oppression
...
January 28,2004
|
My church uses the whole Bible for their standard of teaching. We believe in religious liberty, and salvation is based on an individual relationship with Jesus. The forefathers of the Americas fled from the oppression of the Roman church to start a life of freedom of conscience to worship God based on their conviction of light they received from Him. God gave us this free will when He created us. Jesus died for our religious liberty. Is it remembered by people that in the Bible God did not want His chosen people to have a king, but they begged for one so He permitted a king to reign over Israel, nor did He want Isreal to eat meat after they fled from Egypt with Moses into the wilderness, but they yearned for the meat they used to enjoy in Egypt, so God permitted them to eat meat. This shows the respect God has for our freedom to choose. And if God highly respects it then so should we. Immorality is rising rapidly, though God has not ended the would yet. He does not force His laws on us, nor does He force us to worship Him. He gives us the freedom of choice by allowing us to live our lives as we choose, though we are not protected by His laws when we disobey them. He waits paitently for us to turn to Him, and in many cases, He will wait until a person is on their death bed, if He sees in that person's heart any inkling of accepting is salvation through faith, His grace. God wants a worship of love, because "God is love." Through His immeasurable mercy and kindness toward us are we finally able to drop to our knees in repentence and deep contrition.

We ALL know that the pilgrams came here to escape religion from England, because of what they believed in was different. In my opinion we are being like the English and punishing gays, lesbians, people of other faiths or people that NEVER go to church such as I do, because I realized that most religions are corrupt, and do not agree with the modern concept and morals of life.
It also says in the constution that all men are created equally, during the period of time we have allowed women to vote and have all the rights like a man does. How come we discriminate against gays and lesbians just because of their sexual orientation, that is very unfair they are equal to us. How about on the other hand we worry about our own divorce rate, that is over 50% right now. Also most of you who say that you don't agree with gay marrage is because you have either A never met one or B stayed away. I personally have about 5 lesbian friends, they are just like me in most every way, and they are not man haters they get along great with my boyfriend. They celebrate christmas they sometimes go to church together, they are like a normal couple they are just gay. Anyways sooner or later gay marrage will have to be reconized all over the nation, because it is discrininating based on sexual orientation, which is UNCONSTITUTIONAL. In a sense it is also like abortion, its none of your business and only the couples business what they decide to do with thier lives.
Religion is going to play less and less of a role as future and younger generations such as I realize how corrupt religion is. I have several friends that have ran away from the mormon church. Because religion in too discrininatory, as in too many things, and tells everyone if they don't conform they will go to hell.
That is one reason I hate most parts of religions because no one is going to smite you or send you to hell, everyone has done a little bad in their lives at least, does that mean you are going to hell? NO. Same with heaven, heaven doesn't exist they just tell you it does because otherwise you won't do what they want you to do. And I perosnally thing the word GOD should be removed from many places such as a courthouse, money, and the pledge of alligience. That is also why I don't like republians because they always mix the two of church and state together. Thats why I vote democrat or green if I can.
GO KERRY!

... mystical source

I think it is disappointing that the leader of the free world bases his decisions from a mystical source instead of reality. This has happened many times in human history and never came to any common good. What next, role around and speking in tongues at the State of the Union next year?

... man's search for God
...
January 28,2004
|
Every decision I make is either for God or against Him. Faith is my life. Religion is not. Many times they are lumped together as one, but they are very different. Religion is man's search for God. Religion is man's rules and man's ideas. Faith is living out the teachings of what you believe. The definition of Christian is someone who follows the teachings of Christ. That is what I do, therefore I am a Christian. Many things are done under the headline 'Christian' that are most emphatically not.

... ultimate authority
...
January 28,2004
|
It is the teachings of the Bible, and prayer, that provides a life-sustaining moral compass in my life. My church holds these to be true, so I can recieve and give mutual encouragment. However, it is not just the Bible and church which provides the help in my life. The Bible points to a heart relationship with Jesus Christ, who is not just a good teacher, but God and Lord of all mankind. He is the ultimate authority on all issues I deal with. He can be depended on to give me the wisdom and strength I need to make the right choices for me each day. Religion does not do this; religion, means church denominations. It is man made. You can still go to church but not be true Christian. Jesus Christ has asked me and other Christians to talk about His good news, which involves escaping God's final judgment by confessing their need and dependence on Him and by putting their trust in Jesus Christ to Save them from this wrath which is to come.Christians must be free to talk about this love, shown in the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross, taking on Himself God's wrath. I must be able to talk about these things even in the public arena. This free discourse has been a hallmark of American life and History. From the Great Awakening in 1740s-1743 to the Billy Graham crusades in Kansas City Missouri in 2004. I pray this right to speak will not be taken from me.

... code of ethics
...
January 28,2004
|
Would this individual follow Reverant Jones? Jerry Falwell, If Islamic, Khomeni? There are many religions, many interpretations of "God, Allah, Jehovah, and the Creator's words. Many followers have carried out some of the world's worst atrocities against their fellow man (and women). Having a moral code of ethics is superior to following those who presume to speak in the name of one version of a God or another. Like terrorists, one man's God is another man's oppressor.

... God/State debate
...
January 28,2004
|
Several respondents in this catagory seem to have failed to read the prompt quote -- not an optimistic sign for our ability to engage in well-thought-out discussion. I wonder why the God/State debate focuses on personal morality rather than on the fact that we live in the richest country in the world yet millions live below the poverty line and don't have access to health care. As an atheist, I find this offensive and unethical.

... being kind to all ...

I'm from Canada. Your issues generally becomes ours, however maybe this time it won't. I find it really scary. I firmly believe people should flow through their spiritual taechings of being kind to all men and women. Organized religion , I have found, can be very negative and Jesus must of in great pain when he hears all the hate from people who claim they follow His teachings.
