I think that God should be public to every nation, and be taught in all schools.

... make mine based on the Bible
...
January 27,2004

I believe all people make their decisions based on some type of morality taught by a church, a university or home. I make mine based on the teachings of the Bible, Old and New Testament.

... more than one path to God ...
January 27,2004
|
I am a deeply religious person who prays daily and tries to guide my life by the teachings of my faith as well as those of other faiths. That said, being a Jewish woman, I take offense that the question includes "my church" instead of "my religion" as a prompt. This is the issue across the board for American politics and its connection to religion - the issues are primarily defined by the Christian majority in this country rather than by the overall respect for the many millions of people who do not define their lives by Christ. There's more than one path to God - not just the one defined by George W. Bush and his supporters.

... religious does not make you a moral person
...
January 27,2004
|
No - religion plays no part - clearly being religious does not make you a moral person - all of the 911 terrorists were very religious. Remember the inquisition....the holocaust...ethnic cleansing in Bosnia, etc. - all perpetrated in the name of and by religious believers.

... faith in God

May we always remember our basic heritage of founding fathers; who's faith in God lead them to our great nation. The blessings we enjoy is from a faith in God. And let no man take that away from us.

... inappropriate
...
January 27,2004
|
It is as inappropriate to force a child or those in a non-religious group to say, "under God" when the person does not believe there is a God, as it is to require an individual that believes in God to declare that they do not believe in God.

I am very spiritual, understanding my relationship with all livings things. Religion was contrived by men to justify the conquest of nature.

... should not promote religion
...
January 27,2004
|
I am a firm believer that religion (or lack thereof) is a personal choice. Government should not promote religion in any shape, manor, or form. What would we say if our government decided to promote a non-christian religion? We would hear the hew and cry then!

I turn to the teachings of the Lord through the Bible. God speaks to me in a practical way by renewing my mind and by giving me specific guidance in situations in my life -- and I will do it more and more as I grow closer to Him.

... Let us hold ours
...
January 27,2004

I appreciae this debate. I came to faith in God in college and have been a Christian for 30 years. I work in the secular environment and so appreciate quality debate on the issues you are addressing. You have chosen a good selection of persons to represent the conservative view. But Bryant, keep your claws inside. No one is going to take away your priviledge to hold your views. Let us hold ours with the respect of those who do not hold them and may we do the same. Thanks guys!!

... Let each person make the choices that work for her ...
January 27,2004
|
Whether or not my own decisions are based on a religious faith, is not the criteria for whether others should do so. Let each person make the choices that work for her/him, and let us not require that our personal choices be validated by our personal choices be imposed on others. If what works for me, doesn't work for you, you have no right to expect me to change simply so you'll feel better and more secure in your own choices for yourself.

... one nation under God
...
January 27,2004
|
I am strongly for one nation under God. And from the very earliest documents of our nations history, so were many, probably most of our earliest leaders.Though many of today's history books choose to leave out the early admonitions of our nations first presidents and other leaders, that to have a strong nation we must follow the principals laid down in the Bible and especially by Jesus. Taking God out of our classrooms has led to a group of kids divided as to the place not only of God but also of ethics in our society. If we put God out of our national heritage, we leave ourselves virtually alone in the world against our enemies, unless we choose to join them. America is not strong because of our lack of God but because since the beginning of our nation we have been proud of our nation's Godly heritage. Washington himself helped get Bibles purchased for his troops by our first national leaders,20,000 of them. They understood that in God we trust or without Him we fail. Our liberal leaders, seemingly mostly Democrat, would have us put God totally out of any mention in public. No more recognition of Christmas, or Easter, crosses removed from national cemetaries from the graves of men who died for the right to have them there. Removing God and the Bible from all ceremonies and from our courts. No, it hasn't happened yet but the ACLU is trying to get it to happen and many Hollywood and Democratic liberals are in favor of it. One nation without God will no longer be the land of the free or the home of the brave.

... church gets way too political
...
January 27,2004
|
I find religion to be outside the church. I think religion inside the church gets way too political. I want my spiritual life to be private and hopefully it should affect the way I treat my fellow people no matter how they live their lives. I try to always let spiritual principles such as "do unto others..." to rule my daily life.

I make most decisions based upon the values that were instilled in me as a child and these values were in great part derived from the teachings of the Christian religion.

... My Lord and Savior
...
January 27,2004
|
I live my life so that it is pleasing to My Lord and Savior. I may live here on earth for another 65-70 years, but I will have to answer for eternity for the choices that I make here. My choice is to follow Christ and the God breathed words of the Holy Bible.
