... superstition ...
January 28,2004
|
I believe that the entire program and question is moot. Every argument, pro or con is based on an assumption. An assumption that there is a super creature called god. That belief has been repeated so loudly and for so long that, in my opinion, humanity has embraced it because of humanity's inability to comprehend, fully, the universe in which it finds itself. Religion of any kind, again in my opinion, is nothing but a self perpetuating superstition and should have no role in governence.

... Read some of Plato
...

On the program, the Gay Bishop said the writers of scripture didn't know anything about homosexuality. Not true. Homosexuality was quite normal in the Greek culture. It was the Hebrew culture that homosexuality was an abomination.
If you want a model of a culture where homosexuality was completely normal, think of ancient Greece. This homosexuality was not like todday's -- you've seen Sparticus. Read some of Plato.
I don't think the proponents of normalizing homosexuality will like what that society would be like.

... restrictive manner
...
January 28,2004
|
True freedom is the right of a person to trust in what he truly believes in his heart. Anything less is not freedom. For another to impose their will upon you in a restrictive manner such as to say that I cannot speak or pray in any public or private place is an infringment of my constitutional rights to freedom of speech. The constitutional right to freedom of speech guarantees me the right to express my heartfelt beliefs and opinions. I do not believe that the Constitution gives me the right to commit harmful acts that some call "protests." Because if I wilfully commit acts harming others I have broken the very basis of all that I believe in. Other persons have the obligation from their own conscience to receive or to reject my beliefs and opinions but not to deny my right to express them. One of these beliefs is that the basic laws our land from the Constitution of the United States to laws of the smallest city are based upon the Ten Commandments. The author of the Ten Commandments is a God who is love and He has asked us to love Him in return. Because of His love for me and my fellowman He has set down some basic rules of conduct to govern our lives. To attempt to remove God from any part of our life including the laws by which we live would be to deny the very reason for these laws. To destroy these laws would also destroy our government.

... science and empathy work well
...
January 28,2004
|
I am not religious and struggle with religious issues frequently.
I resent the way religion has been dragged into public life. I think it religious practice should be a private matter.
I usually do not use religious teachings when I consider publc issues. I think reason, science and empathy work well.

Religion only comes into my life when someone wants to push their own beliefs on me. Please do not try to change our lives and laws based on your bible or other religious texts.

... can't take the God
...
January 28,2004

My life and values are based on the Holy Scriptures. They may try to take God out of this nation but, they can't take the God out of me. I will be an example, and I will be a voice for my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Religion not only plays a large role in my life, i.e. attending church, it DEFINES my life. Believing in God and Jesus Christ has brought me blessings and happiness that will never cease. Even in my darkest hour, the Lord is with me.

My personal relationship with Jesus Christ, instruction contained in the Bible, and guidance from the Holy Spirit, rather than "religion" or the "teachings of my church", are what guide most of my day-to-day decisions.

I try to base all my decisions on what's morally right given the teachings from church. Unfortunately, public schools did not offer moral teachings which aid a young person to help say "No" when at a difficult crossroad.
